    Insomnia rating question

    Hi All,

Hope you are well. Has anyone ever been rated for insomnia by the VA? If so, do you have a recommendation for someone to do the Nexus letter?

    Thanks!

The VA does not have an outright rating for Insomnia; it will fall under mental health disorders and rate it as a symptom of major depressive disorder, PTSD etc. If you put in a claim for Insomnia, the C&P exam will be performed by a psychologist or psychiatrist and all the questing will be mental health related. I have never used a nexus letter, I used medical evidence (records of Dr. Visits and Dr. notes of examination) and buddy letter and personal statements.

The CFR for the Schedule of Rating Disabilities can be found here and is searchable. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-38/chapter-I/part-4

I am rated for insomnia. 30%
        secondary to tinnitus 10%
        40% overall.

I did therapy for insomnia while deployed, and they used that as evidence during my C&P. If I hadn’t done the therapy and ultimately been prescribed a sleeping medication, I don’t know if I would have been rated the same.
