Hey Dude I just signed up for Marine Corp OCS. Check it out. You cant be deployed while in college because they wont commission you as an Officer until you graduate.

I thought the CAARNG was pretty bad.

...Then I extended with the Mississippi ARNG - they make the 184th look like ODA. On the flip side though, many of the people we worked with considered the 184th just as squared away as the AD units here (much more squared away then a lot of them).

You have humangous balls to extend with those guys. They are either going to get some guys killed or get put on gate guard/force protection...

In the grand scheme of things, CA is more squared away than most other states. That's a pretty sad statement to make, but what else do you expect from a bunch of kids that weren't allowed to be sh*tbags in the big Army?

Going back to the serious side, for a moment, it may be worth considering Nevada Guard as well. They're not that far away from you. To put it in perspective, I live in San Jose, but attend drill an hour and a half SouthEast of Reno. I've an officer who lives somewhere North of Sac, and I think one of my mortarmen is in Sac as well.

My tank company in 185 Armor (Madera, just North of Fresno) was a good unit with some excellent people in it, but CalGuard as an organisation just didn't provide the opportunities I was looking for. For example, I wanted to attend the Regular Army's Captain's Career Course. CalGuard didn't have the money. And that was just a six-month course. CalGuard would have laughed at me had I said "I want to attend Resident's ILE for ten months in Kansas." It doesn't have the money for many 'optional' things. Nevada does. However, NVGuard is a small establishment, and the variety of jobs on offer is nowhere near as large as that in California, and not all the Nevada units are particularly good. (Then again, you can say that about CalGuard as well).
