That reminds me. Does the rank obtained in CSMR count in the actual military? Example, there was this super nice guy with the rank of Captian helping me out with my will a few months back and on his ACU it said CALIFORNIA instead of US ARMY. He briefly talked to me about it but we ended up having a conversation about OLLs instead. Lets say he wasnt such a nice guy, could he make me or anyone else drop or make our lives a living hell? Theorhetically that is.

That is an intereating question..as it stands the rank is for the state only but when we are interacting with guard soldiers officers are still officers. Can they make your life hell...I suppose they can, guard officers still address higher ranking CSMR officers as SIR/Ma'am. We also fall under the UCMJ if that helps.

rdagloria - I'm considering serving as well. There is an orientation on the 18th in Long Beach that I'm attending. I'll pass on any interesting info I find. Send an email to their recruiters. They seem to be a bit slow to respond, but so far have been very helpful. Let me know if you have any specific questions that I may already have answered from the CASMR.

Ok. I got to ask. Why not just join the National Guard, Army Reserves, Navy Reserves or Marine Corp Reserves?

There are a lot of people like myself that cannot get in due to medical reasons. Others cannot get in due to being beyond 42 prior to enlistment This is still an oppotunity for many of us to serve. let's put it this way, we are trying to do more than stick a magnetic yellow ribbon on our car saying "support the troops"...we help to provide training to guard soldiers that they may not get without our support. Remember, we are not getting paid to do this, everything comes out of our own pocket including our uniforms and travelling long distances to help with training.

I believe it is "CAPO" that is a member here and in his sig line there is a link. I think he is one of the recruiters.

I'm a recruiter with the Recruiting Task Force - South. You can email me at matthew.morelli@us.army.mil and I can help you out.

Yeah. And I think I know who you are talking about, especially if it was down south.

And that's one of the most important missions we have, assisting the Guard with JAG. I may be wrong, but I think we (CSMR) have more JAG officers than the Guard does...???
