    M16A1 vs M16A2

A friend told me that the US Marine Corps dropped the full auto option in their M16A2, so it's only SAFE/SINGLE/BURST. Is this true?

yeah.... about 30 years ago give or take. The M16A2 never had full auto capability. Only the A1 which was used in 'Nam. Google and wikipedia is your friend.

Yes, and the M16A4 (standard issue USMC) is the same, as is the M4 (standard issue Army).

Full auto M4A1s are for SF only.

The Navy had FN build some Full Auto versions of the M16A2 which are the TRUE M16A3 (WITH fixed carry handles--not flat tops).

Very rarely seen are the M16A3's in other services. I'm assuming only NSW uses them.

By the way, you could have posted this in the general gun discussions forum and anyone there would have been happy to answer the question as well... We are too, but you didn't HAVE to come here

Seabees (Naval Construction Battalion) uses them as well. Full auto is a waste of ammo but it is fun to shoot.

That's the way it's supposed to be. The A4 is essentially an A2 with a detachable carry handle.

a4 is flat top with m5 rail and back up sight.
a3 is flat top with carry handle
all the a3 got MWO to convert into a4.
most of a2 also got MWO to convert into a4 also but still wating for kits.......
a2,a3,a4 are semi and burst only.

No. No. No. M16A3 is a full-auto version of the M16A2 and it has a fixed carry handle.
