You dont have to be an MP for law enforcement I would think. Just being in the Army should give you the skills and experience needed.

I could also be completely wrong.

          And why is this?
Not that I disagree I just don't have an opinion on this position at all yet.
Still have two years to figure out exactly what I want to do in the army.

            Your not.
The only thing you really NEED to be in law enforcement is a high school degree.
It just looks better on your resume and will get you promoted way fast.

Same thing with a college degeree which I'm also going for after the army.

              Depends on other factors.
If you're in a Transportation unit and you're tired of moving boxes around all day and want to have some REAL fun, yes go MP, hell go ANYTHING

I'm in the 270th in Sac, I really like it.

A marine buddy of mine who applied for a bunch of LE jobs in Oregon told me that they only gave his service the weight of a 2 year degree. I am sure it varies by department but you might be better off going to college and getting a bachelor's.

You want to be just city PD/county sheriff?...be mp/infantry/scout. Those will be career pushers. Want to be a DEA/ATF/SS/FBI/HS/Contractor?.... then think about the special ops community. Stay in touch with friends. Never hurts to have someone inside already. There are plenty of people who have a had none of the above work in those areas. But if your looking to boost your name towards the top of the wanted list by agencies then you're on the right track.

                        my plan so far is,

i join the army, serve my country for x amount of time.

get hired as a custody assitant(working in the jails) and go to college at the same time.

once im out of college im going to promote up to just being on patrol, or a "street cop"

being in the army should help with some of my funds for college but being a custody assitant while i go to college they pay %60 percent of your college and you can even apply to get money for books or whatever school wise.

plus the 40k a year salary that starts up right when you start the academy.

MP's are the human embodiments of Blue Falcons. Should just wave us through the gates more often.

Being a MP helps at a varying degree from department to department, but you should still make it a priority to pursue a bachelors degree while serving. Even taking some college courses in your off time will be worth the effort especially if the Army has the same kind of tuition assistance programs like the Marine Corps does (pretty much free money, and I like dollars). Just like a promotion board, if numbers are tight, do they want the applicant with military service, the applicant with a bachelors degree, or the applicant with a bachelors degree and prior military experience?

mps have to deal with the infantry when we get drunk and feel like breaking stuff. its kinda a rivalry thing the females in my experience like to party though.
