Old guy passes APFT. What's your recent score?

Hi all. For anyone that saw my other thread you know I finally made it into the reserves. Well, just took my first APFT at 42 years old.

Pushups: 65 (missed about 10 due to not locking out elbows)
    Sit ups: 68
    2 mile run 12:28

At 42 that gives me a 296. Not bad but I'm looking to get a 300 with the young folks scores. A guy can have a goal, right? What are your recent scores?

I've got 24 more years on me. I'd wager my score would be 2.96

I did my best to get the hardest score of all... 180. Alas I failed, and got 183. Damn that run.

Soo close! You'll have to slow just a hair on the run and you'll have that 180 locked up.

Run 3 miles in under 18 minutes, then we're perfect.

I can do it in just over 20, 18 is damn fast. Good goal for me to shoot for though.

              holy **** dude nice scores....

              26
last pt test i came in at 276
              PU: 63
              SU: 74
              2mi: 13:08

im with you on getting a 300 but tbh im more into weightlifting to even care about PU ans SU..every 6 months the Army tends to shift that focus tho. im probably going to be taking one before it gets colder here in Europe to see if i can make it a 300. I think a PT pass and a free 4day pass would be sweet

Thank you kevman. Honestly I take it as a personal challenge and not a competition with anyone else. I'd like to see my whole detachment do well. Though it was fun to hear them ask how old I am. I'm with you, I prefer to lift weights generally. I would love to be able to do 100 sit ups though. Good luck on your quest to 300!

Exactly! Like everyone says, PT is the only things in the Army that is an individual event. Everything else involves team work but when it comes to PT its all about you. Too add to that tho, whenever TOP and the Commander start seeing our Company scores go up the more breaks we get...keep up the good work man!

Awsome job OP. Have you done track your entire life or something? I'm 15 years younger than you and my running sucks ***. Best I've ever done was 16:10 2 mile, 17:00 usually. On the slimmer side and have never really been a smoker.

Any tips? Passing score is not enough, I'd like to get to at least 14:00.

I'm not in the military but would like to be NG or Reserves before I get any older, late 20's.

Sit ups, push ups, running, arggggggg. I stopped all that 37 years ago. Good for you OP. The running always killed me.

Nice work! Most guys in my reserve unit had less numbers than that when in thier 20s.

I once had a terrible stomach problems and did around 3 situp and thsn rolled over and failed the PT test but still maxed the push ups and had a run in the low 13s. I had to get a talking to by Top and the CO. Top looked at me likeni was in the wrong room and then the CO looked at my scores and said, "must of been some bad pasta". (My last name is very Italian sounding) Everyone started laughing.

They put me in remideal PT with everyone who failed and the Sgt. kept referring to us as PT failures and Anthonyca with his bad pasta.

Having joined the Army Reserves at the age of 50 and having to do the regular PT & APFT, I got plantar fasciitis 3 times. Not fun. If you stay in until you're 55, you may want to bone up on AR 350-1, para 1-24(d)...

Thanks all for the encouragement, service, and sharing your stories.

Colt45, I have always been a regular exerciser but never a runner. I modified my workouts to include the push-ups and sit-ups. I bought one of those gps watches and heart rate monitor chest strap. I found a relatively flat residential block in my neighborhood and started running 1 to 2 miles 2 to 3 times per week, progressing to 2.1 miles 2 to 3 times per week. The watch keeps me honest with regard to pace and heart rate. I often thought I was working hard but heart rate showed otherwise. I do a lot of time on the elliptical otherwise. I'm not so sure that helped with my running. If you smoke at all, even socially, quit completely.

I had a scare with plantar fasciiitis. Heel pain started out of the blue one morning, continued for 3 days. I iced it 4 to 5 times a day, stretched and vigorously massaged it. Luckily it resolved completely a week. I dodged a bullet because these can typically last 4 to 6 months or more.

Antjonyca, the worst is running with abdominal issues so I'm amazed you got to the 13 minute mark.
