    CA guard Cav units?

Where the heck are they? I was thinking about re-classing to 19D (used to be a 19K) but i'm having a heck of a time finding out where the closest unit to Sacto is. thanks.

    Go 11B. much more fun
You ma have to travel. I have a Sgt in my platoon that drives all the way from Santa Barbera to drill with us in Riverside. I know there is a Cav unit in San Bernadino but Im sure there are units up there. If your thinking of joining the Guard as prior service, hit me up. I'm poor and could use the cash
    Buy my EO Tech XPS3-0!!!

For those nutjobs who like to use the word "gouge"
Note: I did not write the above article.

There should be plenty of 19D slots around. Every Mech Infantry or Armor Battalion has a scout platoon full of 19D's. 185 Armor is still around.

Yep, try 185th Armor in Madera (I think it's in Madera).

BTW if you don't mind me asking. Why are you thinking about switching from 19k to 19d? I'm currently a 68w and I'm thinking of reclassing to to 19k myself this summer.

You guys need another trigger puller? I'm a 68W, but have been thinking about re-classing this summer. I haven't decided between 19k at the 185th or 11b at any infantry unit. Travel is no problem for me, I like going places.

I really liked tanking, but i started wanting to do more dismount type work. I was in 1-10 Cav in 4th ID when it was the only cav in 4id, really liked the history of Cavalry.

When I was in a Cav unit, we called it 200 years of tradition unhampered by progress. I was in 3-5 Cav at Lewis when it was part of 9th ID. It was an Air Cav unit at that time, but now is ground, and I think part of 1AD or 1st Cavalry Division.

I was a 19D when I went into the Guard in 1978. We still had 1/4 ton jeeps with M-60 machine guns. It was a great time, I had a lot of fun back then.

If you find a 19D slot in the CalGuard now it will be a Mech Infantry or Armor battalion scout platoon and you'll be cruising in a Bradley CFV. I live near the Madera unit and last I heard it was a Tank Company with 1-185AR. The 1-184 IN has units in the Sacto area but the recon platoons in light infantry units are 11B. Where are you looking to drill? I still have a few buddies in the Guard that might be able to help.

UPDATE: I just checked with a buddy and 1-18 Cav is still operating out of Azusa. They have an HHT and three troops of ground cav with armories in San Diego, Azusa, Ontario and Escondido. I think they are HMMWV-mounted. You should be able to locate a contact number online. Looks like your only other option is 1-185 AR Scouts out of Banning. The CalGuard went thru a major re-org a few years back and many of the units I was familiar with don't exist anymore. Nothing in 19D anywhere near Sacto though....

I was looking at a CAARNG org chart in my wife's office.....it's only a few months old, and it's changed already? Dang! Just a few years back, there were 4 battalions of tanks in CA. Now only 2 companies?

Texas units did close to the same thing. When I was leaving active I was hearing all the tank co's were getting transformed into STB's, MP co's, ect. They told me "oh we can give you a 19k slot no problem....but you'll have to reclass in about 6 months" HA!

I'm with the 270th right now. I might just get out when my contracts up in july and rejoin around the time they get back from deployment.

I WANT A 6 MONTH TRIP TO AFGHANISTAN!! damn Army and those year tours!

Wait a minute? B co 2/185th? Are you sure? I could have sworn that they are still armor. I was working with their TNG NCO to let us borrow their M2s and trucks with machine gun mounts for our live fire exercises back in 2007.
