My son graduated AIT!!!

Well, after finishing basic training at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, my eldest son went on to AIT (Advanced Individual training) at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona where he trained to be a 35F or Military Intelligence Analyst.

He graduated last Friday and will now be will be stationed at Ft. Carson, Co.

We had a great time for the few days that we spent together, his mama and girlfriend were there too. My how the Army has changed. Too many things to list, but man what a difference 20 years makes.

We are all so proud of him. I/we pray for a safe enlistment and that he spends his next 3 years stateside.

I reminded him I made E-5/Sgt. in less than 4 yrs (I also made E-6/SSG in less than 6) and challenged him to strive to do the same. I told him if he makes NCO within his 3 yrs, I will fly in for the promotion and he will surely get his rank pounded into his chest just like I received....ah yes the ceremonial "blood rank"! Hell, maybe I'll go when he makes E-4/Specialist and do it anyways.

Now to figure out how for him to buy me all kinds of off roster pistols and then transfer them to me....

you challenged him to 3 years, what if he makes it in less than 2.
Intel Analyst will make E5 pretty quick, the hard part is getting put into the leadership school required, whatever the new version of PLDC is, MI Battalions only get a few slots compared to other units, but the battalion will try to get Analysts in every chance they get, for some reason they want all their soldiers to be NCO's from the beginning. I came from Huachuca myself in 1987
yes the army has changed since we were in, speaking of which, watch out with that blood rank, they might throw you in jail for it these days.

curious, does that base still allow drinking at 18, they did when i was there, it was cheaper than burying soldiers that went to mexico to drink and kill themselves driving back.

Briefly, if he makes it earlier...that's awesome, but highly doubtful, considering you have to have so much TIG and TIS for promotability.

Drinking at 18 on base was over with prior to my enlistment in 1990. I never understood this rule as it's ok to die for your country at 18 but you can't have a drink? I know, it's the law, but it's one that should be amended at least on base, for our troops.

Not anymore. Yes, when I got there I only needed 34 points, but last I checked (last year) the requirement was 400+

400 is easy, do just decent on PT test, just decent on battalion board, that's 375 or more, you get to take your proficiency test in the first 2 years I think, there another 75 minimum, oh weapons qual
Unless things have seriously changed even more than I thought, I'll ask a buddy of mine that's still there, he's familiar with that field
Points were at 517 in November for that field, I think that should be easy to get, the hard part is getting picked to go to the required schools
It can be done, he just needs to make sure they know he wants it
