Anyone have experience with USMC OCS? I'm considering going this route after school is done. I am looking for some firsthand knowledge on this. Thanks in advance.

Marine OCS?
Tags: None -
Where are you located, you should discuss this with an officer selection team first to find out how qualified and competitive you are for selection. It's not as easy as I have a degree and I'm willing. -
I have, I'm trying to avoid the whole recruiter experience until I am more informed. I'd be going in through the jag program if anything, I just want some first hand info on OCS, how difficult it was, what to expect, etc.Comment

Regardless of their accession program, I believe that all Marine officers must go through the Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.

Forget about it. Unless you are a Naval Academy grad, you're chances of being augmented are slim.Comment

Also, every Marine officer that I ever worked with who was a Naval Academy grad - sucked - bigtime! One even made it to BGen, but I once saw him put a gun to the head of a Marine (who could not hear him due to combat noise), because the Marine could not hear him. That Marine, and his Company C.O. did take the matter up, but it didn't go anywhere. I should have taken that USNA scholarship, myself. If you want an officer career - guaranteed - unless you screw up so bad that it embarrasses The Corps (or unless your daddy is the chairman of The Joint Chiefs - or deep in the Blue Blood network)... then you need to switch schools.Comment

lol, hopefully that changes soon as my cousin is there and plans to go the Marine officer route like his father.
that being said, my grandfather who retired a Marine colonel always used to tell us that Texas A&M has graduated more generals than west point and the naval academy combined.Comment

Is this the case for JAG? If so, I'll probably prioritize the other branches over the USMC if my odds are so slim.
The Corps is really my first choice, but is it that competitive? From what I've heard, the air force is the most competitive.Last edited by El Trollo Mejor; 03-09-2016, 3:21 PM.Comment

Maybe back in his day, but not mine - not unless those officers were good "Yes" men, and good on their knees. NA brass have indefinite commissions; Texas A&M grads do not.lol, hopefully that changes soon as my cousin is there and plans to go the Marine officer route like his father.

I have the balls to prosper wherever I commit myself to. It's just a matter of maximizing my odds of success. I didn't make it this far without a pair of brass globes, the question is whether I am wasting my time trying or not. That's why I want to know what I'm getting myself into before I commit 4+ years of my life.Comment

As a station commander for a Marine Recruiting office, I have so many things I want to tell you....
Buy I'll settle for this. I worked at Quantico for almost 3 years at The Basic School and OCS from 2008 to the end of 2010. OCS is a test mental will power and attention to detail through physical challenges and emotional exhaustion. Recruit training for enlisted Marines is a 10x worse mentally than OCS. If you wish to be a JAG and you're not in PLC as a law candidate, than you are already behind the curve. Bc right now there are college students who are already sworn in and on their path to becoming a JAG. You can ask around on the forums about people's experiences buy what if the first person says it was the worst experience of their life? Would that honestly stop you? If the answer is yes than the Marine Corps, and certainly a comissioned officer, is not for you. If you are ready to listen to 100 stories of why Marine OCS was the worst choice of someone's life and still have the conviction to want to pursue your dream of being a Marine JAG, than what would it matter what that 1 or 100 people would say anyways? You got brass globes? Prove it and put your money where your mouth is. Sounds harsh? Welcome to the philosephy of a Marine Corps Staff Non Commissioned Officer, the guy you'll be entrusted to lead. If it's not for you, it's not for you and this service isn't for everyone, the Navy needs good lawyers too.Comment

I dont think it would stop me honestly. I'm a glutton for punishment like that. I wasn't seeking validation of some life decision, but information which I can use to form an informed opinion upon. Information like yours. I appreciate your insight and honesty. I have work to do to get myself ahead from behind the eight ball, but it seems doable with some minor corrections. Thank you.As a station commander for a Marine Recruiting office, I have so many things I want to tell you....
