Ashland Or, votes toward no open carry

"The packed public hearing was held to consider a new law to prohibit openly carrying loaded firearms in public. The proposal would exempt those with concealed weapon permits, as well as law enforcement officers and others whose employment requires them to carry weapons."

    C. It is unlawful for any person to knowingly possess or carry a firearm and that firearm’s clip or magazine, in or upon a public place, including while in a vehicle in a public place, recklessly having failed to remove all the ammunition from the clip or magazine.

Ashland doesn't even allow dogs in their city parks. It's a town dominated by control freakery.

They don't want all the sissy California tourists that go there for the Shakespeare plays to freak out and pee their pants on the way to the shows.

Disclaimer: I enjoy the plays and it does not freak me out. However looking at a lot of the retired people sitting around me at the plays, I understand the city council's concern that it might scare off some tourists.

So, our defense is that we did not, "...recklessly...fail to remove the ammunition..."?

        I'm good with that.

The way I read that sentence, it does not affect only open carry...
Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them.

Ashland has a very rare distinction

The only municipality in the entire state that has sales tax. They are uber liberal and find they need to pay the freight for all the artists who congregate there for their shakespeare festival.

Oregon is a shall issue CCW state.

Get a OR CCW permit and carry concealed.

The State of Oregon has already preempted all local laws. Ashland will be unhappy to discover that they can not make special rules in this area.

In previous years their have been lawsuits over whether the Portland Airport could keep guns out of the non-sterile areas. They tried and lost.

They sure did. I think Ive seen pictures of the sign... (for everyone else, look up 'sundown law')

I worked with a lot of guys that lived there in the 80's and 90's. A sort of run down logging town after logging was decimated by democrats and spotted owls, with hippies in RV's, cheap land, a lot of empty store fronts.

Have you been there lately? It looks something like Disneyland's main street or something. If you look at the surrounding towns you can imagine what it used to look like.

We should press for OC to make the open carrying of firearms the norm: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=911448

Openly carrying puts criminals in and out of uniform on notice that to violate one's peaceful walk in public is a risky venture.
