HHS Proposes Medical Records to be Included in Background Checks

Sounds like they are covering every avenue they can think of. Admittedly, I think it is a good idea to have concrete measures in place that would prohibit mentally ill people from obtaining firearms.

However, with the ever-expanding list of bs in the DSM, I'm pretty sure that all of us will be able to be lumped in with the "crazy" crowd.

    Anyway, heads up.

I can already see the headlines in a few years...

"Working with Democrats in congress, the APA has added a new classification of mental disorder: FEPD, or Firearm Enthusiasm Personality Disorder, characterized by a love of guns and the shooting sports. Individuals diagnose with FEPD will be automatically declared incompetent and will be prohibited from owning firearms."
"The fundamental point [against gun control] is this: Do you take away the liberties of all, do you assume the guilt of all, because some people cannot handle that freedom properly? Imagine if you did, how many other freedoms would have to be taken away." - Peter Hitchens.

"Mentally ill" is a pretty broad category. I don't think everyone with a diagnoses under the category of a mental illness should be disarmed. Someone diagnosed with anxiety after an unfortunate string of personal tragedies could well fit into the category of mentally ill but in no way should be disarmed under some theory that they pose a danger to others. A returning war veteran may be experiencing nightmares upon his return from duty in a war zone and be diagnosed with PTSD but is it our intent to take away the right to self defense from these people? You may not think so but Senator Dianne Feinstein does.

We must be careful not to use or accept from others this broad category of "mentally ill" but rather insist on a more specific definition and challenge law makers to define exactly what category of mental infirmity they believe should make one ineligible to possess firearms. We should also demand to know what system is to be put in place to ensure that those disarmed under this category have access to due process.

In the end, the hope is to disarm the population.

Anyone that doesn't agree with the political beliefs of the MSM can be determined to have mental issues. Then, no guns for you.

So who decides? The ACA review team under the IRS?

This shouldn't be discounted. It's well known that a very dedicated group was successful in getting something removed from the list of mental illnesses some time ago. I see no reason why another very dedicated group wouldn't be successful in getting something added to the list.

That said, at present it appears that the gov is finally getting around to doing what they should have been doing all along.

              As stated in the proposal:
Among the persons subject to the Federal mental health prohibitor are individuals who have been involuntarily committed to a mental institution; found incompetent to stand trial or not guilty by reason of insanity; or otherwise have been determined by a court, board, commission, or other lawful authority to be a danger to themselves or others or to lack the mental capacity to contract or manage their own affairs, as a result of marked subnormal intelligence or mental illness, incompetency, condition, or disease.

"Did I say "republic?" By God, yes, I said "republic!" Long live the glorious republic of the United States of America. Damn democracy. It is a fraudulent term used, often by ignorant persons but no less often by intellectual fakers, to describe an infamous mixture of socialism, miscegenation, graft, confiscation of property and denial of personal rights to individuals whose virtuous principles make them offensive." - Westbrook Pegler
