The biggest surprise to me comes not from the anti-American socialist far-left flank, whose adherents deserve nothing short of summary deportation to their dreamlands such as Gaza, but from Governor Jared Polis expressing "wariness" about the idea. Perhaps, Colorado Democrats have not yet completely succumbed to the cancer of progressivism.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment makes us citizens, not subjects. All other enumerated rights are meaningless without gun rights.

Colorado certainly still possesses an independent streak, even if gradually eroding away into the progressive monoculture. Despite famously being the first to legalize marijuana, way back in November 2012, the "Centennial State" has not yet joined the 12 assault weapons ban jurisdictions. The streak may end this year, but I honestly expected the domino to fall much sooner.

Its Senate sponsor said the policy still needs more conversation outside the ‘pressure cooker’ of the Capitol.

Colorado's Democratic lawmakers have killed an ambitious bill that would have banned the sale and transfer of semiautomatic firearms, including some pistols, shotguns and rifles.

All the credit to democrats. The link I provided does not even mention the word "Republican" as though only

            1. Compared to what?
            2. At what cost?
            3. What hard evidence do you have?

Republicans protect Second Amendment rights a thousand times better than Democrats. Just take a look at the assault weapons ban and constitutional carry maps.

Nevertheless, if only California had Democrats more similar to those in Colorado, the "Golden State" would not have half the gun control laws currently on the books.

I think this is/was the key...

How long that 'perceived' threat will be effective...

The Democratic caucus in my state veered sharply to the left after the 2023 twin retirements of party leaders in both the House of Delegates and Senate. Making matters worse, a total of 8 progressive primary challengers defeated "mainstream" liberal incumbents.

I suppose a similar event could come to Colorado eventually.
