What does it take to register a vehicle in Idaho, other than a mailing address?

From an Idaho Transportation Department website:
Before you can register or title your vehicle, you will need to provide either your Idaho driver?s license number, Idaho ID card* number, or social security number (SSN), or your individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN), along with your full legal name and physical address, and mailing address if different. If registering or titling a vehicle for a business, you will need your EIN (Employer Identification Number) which is your tax identification number.

From that exact language, it looks like a social security number and a physical address (can also have a different mailing address) is required, but it does not say that the supplied address must actually be in the state of Idaho. I know this is looking at it from a very specific detail view, but that is how I read what you have posted. Not trying to make a BS comment, but I would like to have one of those plates without having to be a resident or property owner there, if at all possible.

Do you just want the plates or do you want one of your vehicles registered in Idaho? If just the plates, Arizona, Montana, Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Tennessee, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland have Gadsden Flag plates.

              ^^^Thank you for the info.
Being that a portion of the fees for the Idaho plate goes to fund firearms safety in PUBLIC schools, I see it as a way to send a sort of official FCUK YOU to our governor. It would also deprive California of some vehicle fees as well.

I tried advancing through the Idaho vehicle registration process to see if I could complete the fields as a non-resident. It does not appear so. Check out the Idaho DMV system for yourself.

Not sure if it is the same as Idaho but for Arizona you do have to have a physical residential address to be able to get an Arizona State D.L. or to Register your vehicle. If you have an R.V. you might be able to pull it into an R.V. Park and use the address of the R.V. park as your physical address. And get around some of the physical address red tape. I know of someone that did this and registered their vehicles before moving to Arizona. As long as the R.V. was parked in the R.V. Park they paper plated all five of their vehicles in California and after two weeks completed the move to Arizona. You must also insure your vehicle in the State of Arizona pretty sure that this applies to Idaho as well.

Idaho DMV asked for my physical and mailing address because there was no mail delivery to my physical address. The vehicle had to be in Idaho because they inspected its VIN number.

I concur. In every state I have lived, the DMV, or equivalent government bureau, has required a physical address and proof of insurance from a local agency before allowing vehicle registration.

They did not require proof of insurance from a "local agency." The insurer I had at the time was located in California and was not authorized to sell insurance in Idaho. But the policy was good up to its expiration date, so all I needed was the proof of insurance that is carried in the vehicle. Idaho insurers notify the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) of your insurance status, so if you let it lapse, you get a letter from them. I learned this when I got a letter to the effect that my insurance had lapsed. When I called and mentioned who my insurer was, I was told that this insurer's last electronic submission had been screwed up.

America’s Mailbox. Their service offers an address in South Dakota, from which you can get SD license plates. Many RVers use this, when I see SD plates at the nearby RV park, I think, yeah, right.

Americas Mailbox is a full service Mail Forwarding company offering Mail Scanning, Mail Forwarding, South Dakota Residency, Vehicle Registration, Life and Vehicle Insurance. We have an onsite RV Park and Campground and Hotel.
