Legislators and Advocates Call For Gun Manufacturer Civil Liability in Maryland

The original can be found here, but is 'hidden' behind a paywall. But, it is currently on Yahoo...

Maryland legislators, advocates celebrate recent gun control measures, call for civil liability for gun manufacturers

Densely packed in Lawyers Mall in Annapolis on Tuesday morning, mothers, advocates and policymakers celebrated a decade of legislative wins limiting firearm access and laid out plans to establish civil liability for gun dealers in 2024.

Since 2013, the General Assembly has passed legislation mandating universal background checks and requiring gun owners to apply for handgun qualification licenses, banned the sale and possession of ghost guns, implemented red flag laws, created guidelines on safe gun storage, limited who is eligible to receive a concealed-carry license and restricted where guns may be carried.

But advocates, and many politicians, say there is still more to do to protect Marylanders from the threat of gun violence - especially in the wake of a 4th Circuit Court decision restricting the scope of recently passed gun control legislation...

Waldstreicher's Gun Industry Accountability Act of 2024, or Senate Bill 488, would allow the attorney general and individual plaintiffs to be permitted to sue gun dealers and manufacturers if they don?t implement "reasonable controls" to prevent straw purchasers, gun traffickers, people who are prohibited from firearm possession, and anyone they believe has the intent to use a firearm in the commission of a crime from accessing guns.

Members of the firearms industry would also be susceptible to lawsuits if they don't take measures to prevent the loss or theft of their products...
It will never be 'enough,' even if all arms were banned.

Why is it that 'common sense' and 'reasonable' seem to have different meanings than are ordinarily ascribed to them when it comes to forces on the Left? Oh. Yeah. They have an alternate view and think everyone should be subject to that view. Sorry. I was raised that, in America, you were allowed to have a variety of views, but certain things weren't open for discussion as they are protected (i.e., 'shall not be infringed') by the Constitution, including the Bill of Rights.

Democrats have dropped all pretense and openly consider the existence of guns a public nuisance like cigarettes, worthy of total eradication rather than mere restriction. The same politicians who aid and abet criminals, drug traffickers, illegal migrants, thieves, and child abusers naturally expect the public to believe civilian firearm ownership constitutes the biggest public health issue.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment makes us citizens, not subjects. All other enumerated rights are meaningless without gun rights.

Sounds like a law designed to make gun dealers and any remaining manufacturers to move to Virginia. Does Maryland also bar out-of-state gun purchases?

Federal law prohibits interstate sales of handguns without first transferring to an in-state FFL. Maryland has an assault weapons ban that makes Virginia retailers highly wary of selling to any MD resident.

            Federal law protects firearm manufacturers.

Maybe Maryland should read the constitution?

Leftists do read the Constitution. However, their defective brains operate under a fanciful unmoored "living constitutionalism," whereby explicitly enumerated rights get deemed archaic and nullified, and entirely new rights manifest into the text from nowhere. To progressives, the individual right to keep and bear arms does not exist, but the Founding Fathers certainly drafted a document that protects transgender ideology.
