Constitutional Carry Progress 2024 (Victories: LA and SC)

The South Carolina Senate has held debate on a clean constitutional carry bill and will take a vote this week. If the legislation fails to pass in a Republican trifecta state with 2/3 supermajorities in both chambers, constitutionalist patriots need to defeat some of the GOP senators in primary challenges.

Not every state with constitutional carry has a Republican trifecta, but every single Republican trifecta state has constitutional carry, except South Carolina and Louisiana.

Louisiana only gained full GOP control this year, so I do not fault them for not yet having enacted constitutional carry. However, there is something wrong with South Carolina specifically. Let us hope this time, the policy passes.

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment makes us citizens, not subjects. All other enumerated rights are meaningless without gun rights.

SC Infighting is going to get it killed.

      Failure would be incredibly disappointing.

If Louisiana joins the list, every Republican-controlled state in the entire country will have succeeded, except South Carolina.

Florida has that 'trifecta', and does NOT have CC.........yeah, no lic. required for ccw, but open carry, less fishin/huntin 'campin' WILL get you a stay in an unpleasant place..

WE need to clean out the rhinos in Florida that are only republicans because that's where the votes are...............There are several that will NOT be in office next time around!

Bruen was clear that there is a historical tradition of regulating the manner of public carry. This was the basis of the "shall issue" requirement. The same analysis applies to "Constitutional Carry" and the distinction between Open and Concealed in its application.

In other words, a State can limit "Constitutional Carry" to only concealed carry and remain constitutional under the same historical analysis from Bruen.

The South Carolina Senate has not yet brought the constitutional carry bill up for a vote.

Yesterday, floor debates occurred, but until the legislators vote, the uncertain status quo remains.

                  Per FPC's twitter:

The South Carolina Senate has passed the permitless carry bill with a 28-15 vote. It now returns to the House for concurrence because the Senate amended it.

It appears that there was more than one amendment. The FPC states: "The two most noteworthy were: one that increased unlawful possession penalties and one that lowered the age of legal carry from 21 to 18.
The increased penalties and some other amendments need to be addressed by the House to make it a good bill."

On the surface, the amendments seem acceptable to me. I would support the legislation in its current form.

SC. CC. Passed but with bad amendments.

All eyes now turn to the South Carolina House of Representatives.

What "poison pill" is being bitched about in SC's CC bill?
