Federal judge blocks California carry law

SNIP LOS ANGELES (AP) ? A federal judge on Wednesday blocked a California law that would have banned carrying firearms in most public places, ruling that it violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and deprives people of their ability to defend themselves and their loved ones.

A federal judge has blocked a California law that banned carrying firearms in most public places, ruling that it violates the 2nd Amendment.

It's 2025. Mickey Mouse is in the public domain and Goofy has left the White House.

The injunction does not apply to the entirety of the law (SB2), unfortunately.

The opinion relates only to the 26 so-called sensitive places related to concealed carry by those with a valid CCW.

The opinion is quite lengthy but worth the read. It (a PDF) is in the thread linked to above.

Bonta will certainly appeal and will most likely go to the Ninth Circuit. The entire law is blatantly unconstitutional, but it will take time and effort to realize its demise.

The current injunction is definitely a win.

I think a dupe, but who cares? A good win (even if a temporary one).

I am pleasantly surprised to see that AP News has fairly described the law in accordance with its true nature - a ban on carrying firearms in most public places. Most liberals mischaracterize SB2 as "common sense restrictions" that minimally create a minute quantity of gun-free zones.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment makes us citizens, not subjects. All other enumerated rights are meaningless without gun rights.

Duplicate, and belongs in the other forum as it is a suit against a CA law.

This forum is generally for out of California gun law suits and gun politics.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
