TN: Republican Lawmaker Files Bill to Restrict Firearm Purchases for Gun-Theft Felons

Republican lawmaker files bill to restrict firearm purchases for gun-theft felons

...But Sen. Adam Lowe (R-Calhoun) is bucking that trend, filing a bill that would make it so, 'a person convicted of felony theft of a firearm...is permanently prohibited from purchasing a firearm in this state.'

"What we're saying is it doesn't matter if the DA does their job or not, in Tennessee, if you steal firearms from law-abiding people, you're going to forfeit that right," Lowe said.

In Tennessee, people are already restricted from owning a firearm if they have a felony on their record, so this bill would bring consistency to the rest of the code.

Regardless, Lowe said he drafted the bill because of a lack of enforcement of current laws on the books...

I don't understand this. It says that convicted felons are already prohibited from owning firearms. I assume that means they cannot purchase one. Now this bill purports to prohibit firearm purchases for people convicted of one specific class of felony? I must be missing something.

It's 2025. Mickey Mouse is in the public domain and Goofy has left the White House.

Just like the violence against women act. It's already illegal to be violent to anyone but let's virtue signal with a law on top of a law.

The strong reference to prosecutors not doing their job. And deferring to criminals, infers that this bill will remove the option of a downsize plea bargain from felony to misdemeanor. By making theft of firearms a straight felony. That is what I got out of this quote, anyway.

?What we?re saying is it doesn?t matter if the DA does their job or not, in Tennessee, if you steal firearms from law-abiding people, you?re going to forfeit that right,? Lowe said.
Ca needs such a statute. And several others that remove prosecutorial discretions. We here have [inhancements] for gang affiliations, firearms, etc.
Which allow the DA to give career felons wrist slaps and get out of jail passes for felons.

Prop 47 raised the bottom line for Grand Larceny from $450 to $950. So a criminal can steal all the guns he wants to. And still avoid felony charges as long as he stays under the $950 mark. For each theft.

And DAs like the leftists in the worst crime areas, like SFran and LA refuse to charge enhancements.

How ?bout a specific punishment for this crime of separating a digit for each offense, starting with the index finger?

That?s better than a law to make something illegaler for brownie points.

It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. None of this will do one iota to reduce crime as it claims.
Just politicial posturing to get votes. Like usual.

If there is one thing California doesn't need it's more laws. We already have thousands that are being ignored or misused. What we need are Inteligent voters.

Agreed. We need to educate our family members and friends, then encourage them to vote.
