Ammo control is their back door solution. How long before background checks on ammo are country wide?

With current ammo prices, the effect is partly in place.

They still claim the old hat COVID ammo shortage excuse.
I don't necessarily believe in conspiracies..
      But.

It's how the Swiss do it. Everybody has an actual select fire assault rifle but ammo is only available from the government and you have to account for every last round.

Sounds like what our military does on accounting for ammo.

              No.

Until 2007 or so there was a 'war reserve' of 50 rounds the militia are not supposed to use.

The Swiss government encourages marksmanship by subsidizing ammunition sold at shooting ranges, even if that ammo is not used in the military-issued rifle. Subsidized ammo is intended only for training purposes, and it must be used at the range and cannot be taken home.

Similarly to the US, sporting goods stores and gun shops sell unsubsidized commercial ammo to gun owners for their own use. This ammo can be kept at home and used for any lawful purpose, such as self-defense, recreational or competitive shooting, hunting, etc.
A common meme going around the gun control circles these days is that, though the Swiss have lots of guns, they’re not allowed to keep ammunition at home, and that ammo is only available at a…

Anecdotes suggest "used at the range and cannot be taken home" may not always be strictly enforced.

ETA: Similarly, it was once the case that a militiaman, having completed required service, could keep the issued rifle, then that changed to able to purchase it, then that changed again to allowing the purchase but requiring it be converted to semi-auto.

It's pretty interesting how polarized available articles on Swiss guns are. There was a bunch in the 1990s, then a bunch in the mid-2000s.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

So, they should know how many they left in Afghanistan.

Giving background check info to Joe Blow for research would seem an invasion privacy.
We need to keep informed on who is doing it and anyone affected .
