What is a melting pot and the land of immigrants?

Your ideal of the United States of America never existed and never will exist, thankfully.

Well, considering that the United States doesn't actually HAVE a national language (although the majority of people do speak English), and this entire thread was created to show how too many people celebrate July 4th, rather than Independence Day, calling it Emancipation Day would be confusing to those who thought it would've been the day Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. Celebrate End of Slavery Day? Doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it? Not too catchy, and probably not a good fit for an ugly holiday T-shirt. Calling it Juneteenth, I would've guessed that if you didn't understand what it was, you'd have looked it up, rather than you sounding illiterate at best, and, well.... let's not say what's worst as I don't know you and don't want to cast aspersions.

But a country unified by appreciating unalienable rights and liberty, would hardly fit in with the agenda of financial dynasties and royal blood.

it takes a special kind of stupid to honor diversity of conquerers and tyrants.

                Well OC duh !
These occupying snapperheads could hardly honor the Emancipation Proclamation. Written, signed and implemented by REPUBLICANS!
Instead these fools come up with some nonsense to diminish the sacrifices made by American's, to rid the country of the ancient institution of slavery.

The term melting pot is a analogy to the characteristic of steel. In other words, when people come to the USA, they bring an element to make us stronger, more powerful and indestructible.

Raw iron is not very useful alone, but when other elements are added it become's steel, a material almost indestructible and that is what immigration was designed to do.
Bringing in malcontents, illiterate's, Axe Grinders and angry greedy slobs, who want no part of American freedom are not part of our melting pot. They are like throwing sand into the gears of Americanism.

Likewise government encouraging other language's is taking away elements of our strength's and do NOT believe for 1 second they do not know what their doing !

Yes, an American is a citizen who supports and defends the Constitution of the United States. That is ALL!

Culture, language, religion (i.e. demographics) is constantly changing and has historically always been in flux no matter the groups of people in their respective eras. Your grandfather's America is not the same America we presently live in.

Not having a National language recognizes that fact. Americans today speak English, a language itself that has more Romantic roots than its Germanic lineage. You already lost the "purity" battle hundreds of years before you were born. Even our own founding father's would be puzzled to hear our "American" accents today. Yet, what has remained constant for almost three hundred years is the Constitution of the United States.

This seclusionary attitude living in a region of the United States with predominate Hispanic heritage is rich, ironic, and quite frankly disgusting.

Correct ! The only criteria to be an American is the desire to live free and that translates directly to honoring and knowing the Constitution, Declaration and Bill of Rights 1-10.
I honesty do not understand the purity battle you referenced. What is that ?

Neither was the Emancipation Proclamation that was enacted 2 years earlier. The passage of the 13th Amendment in December of that year officially ended slavery in the US from a constitutional standpoint. Bottom line, though, is that Texas was the last confederate state to surrender on June 2nd, and on the 19th Union soldiers arrived in Galveston and General Granger issued General Order #3 freeing the slaves.

June 19 is great day to remember it was the Republican Party and 2 Republican Presidents who championed, implemented and fought to end slavery.

Its also the Republican Party today that believes and works toward racial equality and equal rights.
