This is a terrible idea. Turning a right into a requirement imposes burdens on people that voluntarily choose to not exercise that right. Fundamentally it's the same thing as saying everyone must own a smartphone so they can record criminals in the act and post on youtube
Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.

        Signed and confirmed.
Waiting for the anti-petition crowd explaining in great detail how worthless the effort is. ...

Kinda like forcing everyone to buy healthcare, or pay a fine.

The only thing more unsafe than not owning a firearm, is owning a firearm and having no idea how to use one safety or effectively.

This would be a step backward, not to mention (as others have already said) just another form of more government intervention/regulation.

People should have the right to not own a gun, just like we should have a right to own one if we so choose.

The problem is not the merit of the issue...

It's the quantity of frivolous petitions that water down the good ones

Very true, but I don't think petitions do anything other than make the signers feel good.
If they were able to influence legislation it would be a different ballgame.

People should have the right to not own a gun, just like we should have a right to own one on the government's list of "permissible-to-own guns" if we so choose.

Sort of like folks having to join a union to get some jobs.

Ideas like the one being promoted just show that some gun folks are as foolish as the Dem Lib Union Gov Hack folks that put anti 2A drivel forward.

                          STUPID.

i know a number of people (who can legally own) that should never be allowed to hold a gun....let alone own one.

and i know people who can not afford a gun. (ca prices are stupid high).

but then it has worked in the city's that have such laws, but the laws have no teeth to enforce it, so antis can feel safe in there gun free zone homes.
                          big gun's...i love big gun's
