    Gun criminals released ?

I haven't verified this story, however it doesnt surprise me that Obama likes criminals to prey upon society,on the theory more crime equals more gun restrictions.

      Gun criminals released ?

The same article was on CNN. Yes Obama did release several hundred people with drugs and firearms charges.

I'll likely get slammed for this, but I would be quite interested in seeing an ethnic percentage breakdown on those commuted.

Restrict Law abiding citizen's access to protection + Release more criminals = common sense gun safety measures

            2+2=5

            Double plus good.

Your best chances of getting released early for a gun charge is to get caught with drugs at the same time.

Here is an example so you can be surprised:

Joe Alvarado (a little looking will show you he falls into the "isn't black" category). He was sentenced to life in prison for intent to distribute meth and possession of a firearm as a felon. In prison since 2004.

                        Want some more fake surprise?

The Republican appointed judge (Bush) that oversaw the trial wrote to Obama supporting the commutation requested stating that he would have sentenced this Alvarado dude to 151 months in prison but had no choice due to federal law and sentenced him to life.

So obviously both Republicans AND Democrats want us to be unsafe for their own purposes.

P.S. I assume everyone knows this is public record right?

What no one is talking about is the sentencing guidelines which FORCE courts to impose sentences which are ridiculously wrong.

Sentencing guidelines came about because some people proved that non-whites were being sentenced disproportionately to longer prison sentences. However, society didn't like the idea of shorter sentences, so the guidelines were created to that EVERYONE got a life sentence for everything from using a public spittoon without permission to mass murder.

Now those guidelines are coming back to haunt the ones in power. Because the results are worse than the lopsided sentences from before they were created.

Obama commuted the sentences of a lot of people who have been in prison 3-4 times longer than they should have been. Some of those convicted did have firearms ENHANCEMENTS but were not convicted of crimes where they USED a gun to commit the crime. So, practically speaking, they weren't convicted of a gun crime, only a gun enhancement.

You may not like Obama, but you should not distort the facts to fit an agenda. That's what the Libs do. We should not act like them. We should tell the truth instead of spin or propaganda.
                          Some random thoughts:

Somebody's gotta be the mole so it might as well be me. Seems to be working so far.

Evil doesn't only come in black.

Life is like a discount bakery. Usually everything is just what you ordered. But, occasionally you come face to face with an unexpected fruitcake. Surprise!

Very good points. This happened with drug crimes a lot. For example during the 60s people who put LSD on a sugar cube were being charged with the entire weight of the sugar cube not the amount of LSD. It was disproportionately harsh (as meant to be) against "Hippies".

Good post and fair minded even though I dislike Obama, we all have to admit our justice system is flawed and could use improvement.

Mandatory minimum sentences do tie the hands of common sense and decency and don't give judges the leeway to act in the 'spirit' of the law which is required in any legal system so complex and perilous as ours.

When one mistake you didn't even realize you made can make you guilty of multiple felonies at once, and the law requires you to be imprisoned for life because you committed 3 felonies, then there is a problem.

These were the types of sentences that were commuted. I don't like Obama and I hate almost everything he does but I can't really fault him on this, none of the people released were convicted of using a firearm in a violent manner, granted, drug dealers are not typically nice non-violent people so there's some valid concern there, but they've all served longer sentences than people convicted for the same crimes today would be.
