Left leaning and pro-guns - anyone?

I sometimes feel like an alien. I mean, I am an alien (from the Netherlands) but I mean in terms of my political views. I can be best described as a left libertarian. I like freedom. Freedom to choose whatever you want in terms of who you marry, whether you have abortions or not, freedom whether you want to go to any kind of church or not or whether you have a huge armory in your basement or not. I hate the government snooping into pretty much anything we do. I read 1984 and I always thought the United States was the last nation to ever become like that. The only 'regulation' I like is the kind that prevents corporations or billionaires from essentially running the show because that's kind of like going back to medieval times like where Henry VIII was calling all the shots in the UK.

I see very few people who feel this way. It's like when you like guns you have to be conservative or it doesn't 'match up'.

    Anyone else like this?

I second your sentiments, sir. I've always been a radical moderate and it is minorly distressing that there aren't a whole lot of vocal moderates in political discussions these days.

You'll find a quite a few here that value freedom.

You'll find quite a few here who do not. It takes all kinds. That is what is great about the US, it isn't homogeneous.

The most fun kind are the ones that claim they value freedom but when you hit them with things like gay marriage they suddenly melt like frosty the snowman on a sunny day but it certainly is a great country we have here because you CAN be inconsistent and it's ok

Good to see I'm not alone. I like freedom of absolutely all kinds. Live and let live. If someone else wants to do something you're against it's not gonna hurt you. I don't want to tell others what to do nor have others tell me what to do. I always thought that was one of the main American principles

If you look at what happens to them on this forum, you'd see why they choose not to be vocal. One of the distressing things here is that the far right seem to deny the existence of moderates or "independents" as I call them who don't buy any political party's baloney and make up their own minds on individual issues.

It's the checklist mentality they have a whole list of things you must be for and against and if you deviate from the "correct" on any of them, then you have to be a liberal who votes for Feinstein, loves abortion, wants welfare for all etc... as they regurgitate to standard mantrahs that the right assumes about the left.

I'm not sure exactly how one would define a "radical moderate" but it sounds pretty close.... I am probably more of a conservative moderate because most of my positions (BUT NOT ALL) align with the GOP punchcard checklist, but I think they have lost their minds on some too.

Problem here is if you voice disagreements on them you get slapped with the L word (liberal) or T word (troll) and assumed to be a traitor who hates guns and votes for Feinstein.

Kindly explain why you consider this a troll post. That is the absolute last thing I intended with this thread. It's genuine and not trying to incite any kind of arguing. I would think we could have an adult conversation here? If this is not possible please accept my apologies and close the thread.

For what it's worth, I think Feinstein is a scary Orwellian statist who literally makes me feel uneasy. But the entire roster of GOP candidates make me feel equally uneasy. I also don't want 'welfare for all' or 'love abortion'. Everyone I know who had one was not doing it because they 'loved it'. Sometimes **** happens and it's nice to have the liberty to have an abortion just like it's nice to have the liberty to have as many guns as you want if you feel like that's what you need. If someone wants to drug themselves into oblivion, why not let them? It all boils down to freedom. As long as you don't bother someone else with what you're doing I don't see the problem and I'm in favor of it.

Just FYI, the left is NOT pro-gun.

Exactly. Which is why I started the thread. I don't have any warm feelings for any GOP politician but yet they're the 'pro gun party'. I am pro gun as well. So what gives?

**** happens?! Hahaha. Loose sexual morals is equivalent to self defense? Abortion is not a victimless crime.

Boinking dudes and murdering babies aren't on the same level of defending your life or your country.

Serious question: Of the "freedoms" you've mentioned, which is the most important to you?" Vote accordingly.

I might have been trolled...I'm OK.

I think freedom is the word. That's all I'm saying. And frankly I do t think either the GOP or the Democrats are very pro freedom, which is an American value. Or so I thought anyway.
