    Hello everyone..
I will be flying into California next week for a couple days and driving back up to WA and had some questions.. I wanted to fly with my firearm so I can have it with me back on my drive to Wa but was wondering if my gun is legal to bring in CA. I have have a M&P ported with a red dot optic and will have 10 round mags.. Is that set up legal? I understand threaded barrels are a no go but is ported ok and is having a red dot ok? I will have it in a locked case till I cross into Oregon.

Just ensure that you transport it unloaded and locked in a secure container.

The unloaded gun locked in the trunk counts as it being in a secure container, but as soon as you open it, it is then a case of open carry of a firearm.

If you are flying in, you already have a secure locking container for your firearm. Use that, and if you want a second layer of security, lock that in your trunk.

or heard it with your own ears,
don't make it up with your small mind,
or spread it with your big mouth.

In other words, if at some point you need to open your trunk e.g. to put the spare tyre on, and the firearm isn't in a separate locked container, you could be in deep doodoo.

Thanks guys.. I just wanted to make sure.. I think reading up on all the stuff in California just made me more worried than I should be. The whole M&p dropping from the list and all made me think that I couldn't bring one down with me. I guess I should be good to go.. I will have the fire arm inside a nano vault 200 and then placing that inside a pelican case... I know It might be overkill.

Buy insurance for your gun in case TSA or a worker takes it. Or, ship UPS and avoid all of that.
