    Visiting with AR15 pistol

So I moved out of CA to AZ a few month back to get away from the political BS and live in a free gun state, but my family is still in CA and I am going home to visit next week and my dad wants to go shooting.

My newest AR build is a 9mm pistol, so I wanted to make sure everything is legal about it before I drive across state lines.

    1. First off I will be installing a bullet button.

    2. I do not have a foregrip but it does have a threaded barrel and flash hider. Is a threaded barrel legal if the flash hider is not pinned and welded? This will be my biggest problem and will not be able to bring it if its illegal.

    3. I do have a 32 round preban UZI mag for it. Can I use it or will i have to "permanently" limit it to 10 rounds?

Any help would be great to keep me out of trouble

You'll need to limit the magazine.

OOPs, never mind. 10 Round mag max because of bullet button.

Bullet button negates the threaded barrel issue. Pretty much all CA AR and AK pistols have threaded barrels.

PS. Foregrip probably legal if the gun is over 26" long. See Franklin Armory XO26.

          Not really

          1. He's not a California resident so he cannot bring that magazine into California

          2. Installing a magazine more than 10 rounds on a bullet buttoned weapon turns that weapon into an assault weapon. Also illegal.

OP should bring a legal 10 round magazine and leave the hi caps home..

In order to be CA legal, the AR Pistol needs a maglock + 10 or less round magazine.

Threaded barrel & flash suppressor is CA legal on a semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine. The maglock + 10 or less round magazine equates to a fixed magazine.

Unless you own the large capacity magazines in CA before 01-01-2000, you can not bring it to CA. They will need to be permanently modified to 10 rounds. It is illegal to have a semi-auto pistol with a fixed magazine capacity of 11+ round. So, it will need a 10 or less round magazine to be CA legal.

actually, even if he wasn't a CA resident but possessed in within the state of CA before 2000, he could return with it. how could have that occurred? perhaps he used to come to the great western gun show in Pomona (many out-of-state people used to come to it to buy stuff like some of us go to the December SAR show in Phoenix) and bought large-cap mags. he then possessed them in the state and then exported them back home. he can import those mags without violating the law.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

                  Good to know....

Then again, he might have issues if he pulled out an Arizona Drivers license and tried to explain away the 32 round Uzi Mag...

While legal, it could possibly be more trouble than he wanted.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Looks like a 10/32 magazine it is.... YAY

I knew AR's and AK's could have threaded barrels with a BB because I had a few of them in CA with BB But i wasnt sure about a pistol.
