so how soon can I take it? (HSC/FSC)

    Hello to all,

My HSC has expired and need to retake the test to get another permit. So how soon can I get a new book to study and take the exam?? Does it also include rifles as well now??

IIRC, the FSC starts in January. So you may as well wait a couple of more weeks. And I'm not sure a study guide is truly necessary. It's probably gonna be a very similar test to the HSC.

But, I think there is a study guide online that is free. I'll look for a link.
    Sorry, not sorry.

I don't see one for the FSC yet. But the handgun one is here:

            FSC starts 01-01-2015.

CA DOJ will not be releasing any information (study guide/tests/certificates/etc) pertaining to the FSC until 01-01-2015.

              Thank you

              Guys/Gals,

Many thanks for your fast replies! I want to get mine renewed as soon as I can. I'll re-study the pistol version and try to get some study guide for the rifles version as soon as the new year starts.

Have a happy holiday you all,

I think you have missed the details of what was said.

                Starting at 2015-01-01 00:00 :

                - The HSC which is for handguns will no longer be able to be issued. (Current issued ones still valid (one year?)).

                - The FSC will now be issued and covers all firearms.

So unless you have to buy a handgun in the next eleven days, just wait for the new year and pay $25 only once.

Not sure if this is known yet but is a FSC required to purchase a stripped lower? How will we be doing safety demonstrations on them

                    1 - yes

2 - not known; FFLs are asking DOJ but no answer yet.

Get a hunting license for longuns instead of fsc. Then you have a lot of options for carrying while hunting good outdoor exercise since hunting in Ca involves armed walks in the wild with little chance of interfacing with quarry while on public lands.(LOL)

I agree. My HSC is good for a few more years and if I want a rifle next year Ill prolly just get hunting license instead of a FSC especially if it means I wont need to do a safety demonstration for stripped lowers. Im not much of a hunter but its good to know I can if I decide to

FAQs What is the Firearm Safety Certificate Program? What are the exemptions from the Firearm Safety Certificate requirement? If I already have a Handgun Safety Certificate, will I still need a Firearm Safety Certificate? Will I need a Firearm Safety Certificate if I begin a long gun transaction prior to January 1, 2015, but don’t take possession of the long gun until after December 31, 2014? Can I get a Firearm Safety Certificate prior to January 1, 2015? How will I be able to obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate? How much will the Firearm Safety Certificate cost?
