Voluntary Registration (Does not substitute for FFL transfer)

I want to sell a XD to a guy. A gunshop employee told him he can just download, and fill out a Voluntary Registration form instead of going through 10 day wait. Is this true? I never heard of this. Should I tell this guy to kick rocks?

You can still sell him the firearm, just go through an FFL to do it.

I do not say this as an LEO, and I have never dealt with this personally in a work capacity. However, I have been told DOJ happily accepts self registration forms from folks who do illegal transfers.

Essentially there's two ways to look at it: DOJ is happy that you're doing the registrations since so many folks choose to do illegal transfers (through ignorance or blatant choice); still what you're doing is illegal and you've now admitted to it on a government form. Tread carefully and just do the transfer.

10 day wait doesn't hurt you as seller. You've already collected your money and ran.

No, I did not collect money. I did not give him, or anyone the gun. I simply told him no way Jose. I'm not desperate to sell it. I'd like to get rid of it to have less calibers of different firearms. I'm trying to consolidate, so not to have a million different calibers of ammo, so i'm selling this .40s&w. I do not want silver bracelets. I just came to Calguns to verify what I thought was correct. Any one want a XD? Its in Inland Empire plus 400 rounds ammo.
