magpul 10/30 magazine question

No. First of all, you would have to make the conversion out of state, or have it done by someone who is permitted to import magazines to make such conversions. Importing either the magazine or the components yourself would be a crime.I have 30 round in a free state that I want shipped to me because I don't want to have to buy new ones.
I know 30 round mags are illegal in California. If I buy this
Magblock 10/30 MCL (Magazine Capacity Limiter) for use in Magpul 30 round Pmags in .223/5.56mm. This block will replace the lower spring attachment point (locking plate) and convert a 30 round magazine to hold only 10 rounds. The Pmag dust covers will
is that legal?
Second, conversions from large capacity magazines to magazines with a capacity to feed 10 rounds or less must be permanent. There is no statutory definition of permanent, however this product does not seem to qualify under any reasonable definition. My posts may contain general information related to the law, however, THEY ARE NOT LEGAL ADVICE AND I AM NOT A LAWYER. I recommend you consult a lawyer if you want legal advice. No attorney-client or confidential relationship exists or will be formed between myself and any other person on the basis of these posts. Pronouns I may use (such as "you" and "your") do NOT refer to any particular person under any circumstance. -
well yeah, I would send the blocker to the place where the mags are, have them installed, then shipped here.No. First of all, you would have to make the conversion out of state, or have it done by someone who is permitted to import magazines to make such conversions. after doing a forum search, I saw back in 2012 they posted on here saying more or less saying it was G2G.

You probably can't do that either (sell them), unless you leave the state first. I have some issues with CA law extending out of state like that, but the way the law is written, selling of large capacity magazines by persons in CA is prohibited, even if the magazines themselves are never in the state. Considering it's a felony, and a relatively small sum of money is at stake, it's probably best not to take chances. Of course, you should consult a lawyer if you want legal advice.
I feel like I have to apologize for how stupid these laws are.My posts may contain general information related to the law, however, THEY ARE NOT LEGAL ADVICE AND I AM NOT A LAWYER. Many people use these blocks. It is probably the most popular limiter. Many FFLs in CA sell/sold them, especially when it was legal to get rebuild kits. But to make legal mags with these for CA, they need to be riveted to the base plate of the mag, or epoxied, or both. The idea being, it should not be easy to remove the limiter when finished.
If your out of state people are handy then perhaps you could have them modified and sent in. They need to be sure and function test the mags before final assembly with the rivet/epoxy. Should not hold more than 10rds and should still insert against the closed bolt with 10rds.
But your best bet may be to abandon these mags, and just buy some already blocked. Not sure how many mags you're talking but at only $10 to $12 a piece it is probably cheaper than a lawyer.Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-31-2014, 10:00 PM.Comment

I think if I had the thing permanently attached to the base plate I might have a good defense, particularly if the old base plate no longer existed. But I can't guarantee I would win, and that is a real concern given that we are talking about a potential felony. The new law prohibiting "repair kits," whatever those are, just made things so much worse. My posts may contain general information related to the law, however, THEY ARE NOT LEGAL ADVICE AND I AM NOT A LAWYER. I have switched to ASC and PSA 10rd shorty metal mags with anti tilt followers. No worries about the hinky bolt catch issue with PMAGs, or goons in jack boots :-/Comment

well, I mean, im not selling anything.. I currently live in California. im active duty. they would be selling them in another state, where theyre legal and anyone can have one, and would be buying me California compliant mags and have them shipped here. that would be the greatest case should they come after me...probably help me retire early tooComment
