    AOW thought exercise

If i were to take an AR pistol, with a 16 inch barrel and a Sig Arm brace, then put a forward pistol grip on it, would it be considered an AOW that wouldnt need a tax stamp?

Would this set-up be California legal? This set up seems like it would be legal in the Federal level and I recall there being an exemption in California law for AOW that are legally possessed in a Federal level.

I remember the Franklin Armory XO-26 does this but with an 11.5 inch barrel.

    Here is the link: http://www.franklinarmory.com/PRODUCTS_XO-26.html

I was also curious about doing this from an 80% lower.

An AOW is a federally-regulated NFA firearm requiring a tax stamp.

An 'other Title I firearm' (not a rifle, shotgun, handgun, or receiver under federal law) is a very different thing altogether.

buttstockless 16 inch barrel and 26 oal makes it a "long arm" in california

(but its not a rifle so is a bullet button required?)

to the atf it is only a title 1 "other" firearm not a nfa taxable aow

"any other weapons" are under 26" oal

it gets some really crazy results sometimes

like in some states you can get a firearm that shoots 12ga but has a barrel less than 18" yet is not NFA

All AOWs need a tax stamp or they are contraband. But, as others have said, your title 1 long gun would not be classified as such.

Having a brace on your specification would likely be viewed as a stock by the cop on the street, so you would still want to run a bullet button to avoid likely AW arrest.
