legalities of pellet gun

I had an issue with crows maybe 10 years ago. Neighbor called cops & I got an ear full on the illegality of it by the officer. I am in San Diego however.10 +1 in the chamber -
Look up muni codes that may apply on the city web page. I would bet it's highly verboten. If you do it, be discreet and have a plan for disposal. While a pellet gun is not considered a "firearm" don't go chasin vermin around your neighborhood yada, yada, yada.
If the Police come knocking on your front door the next day to have a chat, don't open the door. I doubt a judge is gonna issue a search warrant for a dispatched coon. I would only run an OP like this on my own property BTW.
Head up Brea Blvd and chuck the carcass over the side of a vehicle turnout. The yotes will take care of evidence by sunrise.
Disclaimer, I am not an attorney, I have never done this kind of thing before, and I am just kidding about everything I wrote above.

ca dfg mammal and furbearer regulations
You must have a valid Ca hunting license and adhere to season dates for your area.
Most incorporated areas of a county [read city limits] have ordinances against discharging firearms or air rifles.
To be perfectly legal get a trap from local animal control. Call them when you catch one for disposal.

Dude really. Here in Commyfornia it is actually illegal for your kid to catch a lizard in your back yard unless he has a permit to do so.
Crows, are believe it or not, listed as "Song Birds" in Commyfornia and as such a protected species unless they are commiting depredation on fruit trees.

Two questions
What is the city code on pellet guns?
What are the hunting regs for taking a racoon??
A coworkers brother shot an opossum with a crossbow and the neighbor dialed 9-1-1.
Nasty eveningRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
(thanks to Jeff Cooper)Comment

Co-workers brother needs a quieter pellet gun/crossbow, and/or a zipper for his lip.
Time to exercise the "3-S Rule"..........shoot-shovel-Shhh.

Just a note - when asking such questions, it's helpful to others if your 'Location' field has something in it that will let respondents point to the correct body of county or municipal code.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!Comment

From DFG:
Crows:
Crows may only be taken by firearms, bow and arrow, falconry, or by
toxicant with permission from the CA food and Ag Department (contact
Contra Costa County Ag for info re: use of toxicant.). Crows may not be
taken with air rifles. If crows are causing damage to the property they
may be taken without a permit or license from the DFG by the landowners or
tenants, or by person with written permission from the
owner/tenant. Crows are also protected by Federal laws and you should
contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service for any Federal laws that may
apply.
But you can't shoot them with an air rifle.
Crows are a big problem in the East Bay.Comment

Good luck. I lived in Placentia on Bastanchury and had a Racoon enter my house through the cat door and was helping him/herself to cat food. Vector Control will not take care of it, so I hired a company (Mr. Pest, I think), to trap and relocate the racoon.Comment

Maybe it was the Feds that called them songbirds or classed them same as, as far a shooting went? I don't honestly remember, I do know you need to adhere to a bunch of legal baloney to [legally] take out one of the pests anymore.Crows are also protected by Federal laws and you should
contact the US Fish and Wildlife Service for any Federal laws that may
apply.

If you ask me every neighborhood needs some old coot who is, siting in his back yard in his boxers, shooting crows with a pellet gun.
Make sure you wear boxers only. It's a Karma thingy.Only slaves don't need guns

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

If a crow falls in the neighborhood and there is no one to witness it...Sorry, not sorry.
