Selling an unlisted, registered (Ca. DOJ) AK

I'm reducing my gun inventory for a couple of reasons. I have an AK variant that was never listed but, I registered the rifle with Ca. DOJ. If I have read their website correctly I must do the following before selling this rifle A.) remove/convert one of the qualifying features of an assault rifle. My rifle has a thumbhole stock and a removable magazine. In this case a bullet button has been installed in order to negate the removable magazine. B. This is where I'm confused it says the following If the defining characteristics establishing a firearm as a category 3 assault weapon are removed, it is no longer an assault weapon and the registration may be canceled. However, once the registration is canceled, you can never replace the characteristic(s) that make it an assault weapon, or you will be in possession of an illegal weapon. To cancel an assault weapon registration, contact DOJ at (916) 227-2153. Once the registration has been canceled, the firearm can be sold or transferred like any other firearm (non-assault weapon).[/I][/I]
My questions are as follows, Has anyone done this, how long does this take as I have a buyer lined up.
    Best regards,
    Ray

What's the confusion. You already installed a bullet button. Call DOJ and cancel the registration then your gtg to transfer.

FYI For those of you who may be considering selling a registered assault
weapon after the modifications to bring it into compliance i.e.; bullet button. Here is some info that may be relevant for you.

According to the gentleman at the Ca. DOJ in Firearms Licensing and Permts Unit I just spoke to, "because deregistering assault weapons is not a priority it may take two months to remove your gun from the list." In addition, I need to take photos of the modification and submit them along with my record number of registration along with the request in writing. In the mean time I'm not permitted to sell the weapon.
          Best regards,
          Ray

one would think that reducing the number of RAWs in the state WOULD be a priority to the state. deregistration makes it less evil.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

My thoughts also. I would never de-register and sale a RAW.
