Inherited a handgun but want to sell it..

I was given a 22lr pistol that is/was registered to my dad when he was alive. It's only a couple years old and it doesn't have any sentimental value.

I'm wondering if I can sell it through a PPT or trade it in to an FFL? I know the DOJ has a special mail-in form for interfamily transfers but I'm hoping to skip that step if possible. Do I need to waste the time & money of transferring it into my name first just so I can sell it or can I skip that step and just sell it?

I'm not entirely sure, but I believe you can still transfer it to the new owner/buyer via PPT even if it wasn't originally registered to you as long as it wasn't reported stolen or identified as being used in a crime, etc.

Maybe someone else could chime in here.

I just did this exact thing. PPT to new owner. They seem more concerned it's not stolen and that they know who's buying it.

We already have the only reasonable Gun Control we need, It's called the Second Amendment and it's the government it controls.

I'm sure there's a few threads somewhere I've come across.

          I dunno.

Do you want to follow California law or not?

It's $19 and a stamp and filling out the form; to not do it risks a misdemeanor.

Of course, if the transfer wasn't a direct inheritance - you named in the will, or you designated by the probate court - the person giving you the gun should have been a parent, grandparent or child.

Okay, thanks. It seemed like a waste of time to transfer it since I'm not planning to keep it but I don't want to do anything illegal, so I guess I'll send in the form and wait to sell it. Thanks for the info...

Is it a Ruger Mk 1?
                Colt?
                Browning?
How much are you selling it for?
