Unless you have a strong need to have the gun registered to you - perhaps a sale coming up - you have done your part by submitting the form and fee to the correct address. An acknowledgement is not required.

It's a bit odd they have not yet cashed the check.

I did a new resident form. It took more than a month to cash the check. I think a lot of Californians are buying guns, the DOJ must be working hard.

Im curious too. My dad gave me his LC9, I sent the check and form, but then bought a G26. I want to give it back to him now. Do i have to wait for the first one to clear, or can I just do another? Its been about 2 weeks.

You can give it back - but he has to file a new oplaw form to cover that.

I did a transfer recently. They told me that it could take up to six weeks but I received the letter in about two. I don't know if a made a difference that I have a COE.

(1) Yes, but all the family must have been residents of CA

(2) about 1991

(3) since 1994, 20 years ago, is after 1991, such transfers of handguns should have been documented with the OPLAW then. Long guns, OTOH, began to be covered only in January of 2014.

In 'ordinary' times, an undocumented transfer would go undetected and unremarked. Get arrested for using a gun in a crime, and such an event May Become An Issue.

Now that you know, use the OPLAW for in-California direct family transfer.

Should we OPLAW long guns that are Pre-Jan 2014 family transfers?
Lets say in 5 years, if a cop were to find a family transfer rifle from 20 years ago, run a check on it, and find that you are not registered to it. How would you prove that you legally own it, seems like you wouldnt get it back.

If a gun was gifted pre-1991, i assume you could/should still do an OPLAW. But what if the gift giver is no longer living or moved out of state, could you still OPLAW it ?

I sent in a transfer form last year (January) and it took me about 3 months to get the paper showing it was transfered into my name.
