    Selling Ammo to California Resident...

    Hello.

I live in Pennsylvania. I have ammo listed for sale online. The person who wants to buy it lives in California (91746).

Is it legal to sell it to him and have it shipped? Or, is it illegal and a no-go?

    I can't find anything online.

legal private party sales not regulated except they must be 18 years of age. It ships ups or fedex ground with orme-d markings on package.

So, I basically need the buyer to send me a copy of their CA DL with payment to confirm age and address?

There is no state law prohibiting on-line sales.

However several municipalities do have restrictions that can either inhibit, or prohibit, on-line transactions. The city of Los Angeles is a good example.

The problem with Zip Codes is that they do not precisely correspond with local jurisdictional boundaries. The majority of zip code 91746 appears to be in the city of La Puente. I gave their municipal code a quick look and found nothing addressing ammunition sales.

I just called La Puente Firing Range and spoke to someone there. They told me that there are no restrictions for online private sales. Just to make sure that the person I am selling to is over 18 years of age.

Yet.... they are trying very hard to pass one.

As Maxwell Smart used to say: "Missed it by THAT much...."

Such a law was passed but struck down before it took effect.

In a setback for gun-control advocates, a state appeals court has barred enforcement of a California law that would require all purchases of ammunition "principally for use" in handguns to be made in person rather than by mail order or on the Internet.

Also, it's illegal to sell/import/possess tracer ammo (except for shotguns), incendiary ammo, explosive ammo, flechette ammo, and handgun AP ammo.

                Thanks everyone for their responses.

I'm only selling a case worth of 22 Long Rifle ammo.
