Moving to California with Firearms (Image Heavy)

    Good day,

I just joined the forums, but have been reading a post here and a post there from Google searches. I am looking to get some advice on what adjustments I can make so that I can bring my firearms to California. I am in the military, but I will not be on or near a post nor will I fall under an actual chain of command, so the "Military Assault Weapon Exception" can't apply. I will also only be in California for only a year, but I don't like the idea of not having my firearms with me for not only security of the firearms, (leaving it in a storage area or with a friend that even though I trust, he is military as well and as dynamic a military career with moves and deployments, I would hate to put him in a situation due to my firearms) but I also want to keep my marksmanship skills in a constant state of improvement. Here is the list of what I have as well as pictures to show their current state:

    1861 NAVY COLT REPRODUCTION

    SPRINGFIELD 1903-A3

COOK AND BROTHER CARBINE MODEL 1863 REPRODUCTION

LEE ENFIELD NO.5 MK 1 JUNGLE CARBINE

LEE ENFIELD NO. 4 MK. 1

MOSIN M-44 CARBINE (has a bayonet attached)

    VEPR 7.62x54R

CZECH VZ 52/57 (Has bayonet attached)

    CZECH SA VZ-58

    RUGER 10/22 TAKEDOWN TACTICAL

    SAIGA 12- Kushnapup

    RUGER MK III 22/45 Lite

    FN FNX-45 TACTICAL

    SIG SAUER MOSQUITO

    SIG SAUER P226 TACOPS

    CZECH VZ-52 PISTOL

As you can see, I am a bit of a CZ whore.

Now I will be leaving the more then 10 round magazines out of the state and buy a few 10 rounders for the VZ-58 and a few of the pistols. Just for clarification, are my BX25 magazines for my Ruger 10/22 since it is a 22LR? Now looking at what makes an "Assault Weapon" according to California, will I be ok with what I have and I add a "Bullet Button" to the VZ-58, VEPR and Saiga 12? From what I understand, once that is done, then with the current features of those three, I should be good to have them in California and still be able to shoot them.

I will be arriving in a few months and I want to start preparations now so that there are no surprises. Thank you all in advance for all of your advice, and if there is anything else not covered here that I may need to know, I am open to additional advice. And if you need any additional information from me, please don't hesitate to ask.

Threaded barrel on the FN makes it illegal, you'll need a new barrel or leave it outside of the state.

You also need a mag lock for the VZ-61(because the mag is outside of the pistol grip), mag lock for the FNX-45(or get a non-threaded barrel), you can't bring any magazines over 10 rounds with you(doesn't matter if it's for a 10/22), a mag lock or do something about the threads on the 22/45 lite.

                - as mentioned, mag lock for vepr, vz58, kushnapup, vz61 (skorpion). have never heard of or seen a mag lock for the skorpion though.
                - new barrel for fn45 or leave it somewhere safe. same with the ruger 22 pistol.
                - i know the mare's leg is generally exempt from nfa, but CA/NY do not allow sales here. not sure about ownership. either way, i'd rather leave it somewhere safe vs possible headache from some individual LE or random person who may flip out when they see it.
                - don't think the threaded barrel alone on the 10/22 will cause any problems.

                think you are ok otherwise.

make sure any of your guns that have folding stocks meet the california overall length requirement of 30" if they are semi automatic (even with bullet buttons / mag locks)

or pin them so you can no longer fold the stock.

                        for the FN
just remove the barrel from the gun
you can posses the barrel in CA, just not in the gun. so get a new barrel or just take it out.
i have an FN and the threaded and non threaded barrels. the non threaded in the state, threaded when leave the state.

Welcome and thank you for your service.
I'm curious about how you can be in the military with the situation you described. I've never been in the military but am just being nosy.

I think you can pin the bushing on that is covering the threads. Easier to leave the barrel with your 10+ mags.

I think it's classified as a pistol - but if it will chamber a .410 it becomes a short barrel shotgun in CA then it's a no-go.
