    Pistol build

I am planning on build an ar pistol with a dd 10.3 barrel and would like to use the kak receiver extension but think this would bring the length to more than 26 inches.
I would need a aow tax stamp correct?
Can you use a registered ar pistol lower or does it need to he a virgin lower to get the stamp?
    Thanks

    Under Federal laws/regulations...
Title 1 firearms (handgun, rifle, shotgun, other) do not require BATFE approval (tax stamp).
Title 2 firearms (AOW, DD, MG, NS, SBR, SBS) require BATFE approval (tax stamp).

A firearm with a rifled barrel length of less than 16" and an overall length of greater than 26" is classified as a Title 1 Other firearm.
A firearm with a rifled barrel length of less than 16" and an overall length of less than 26" is classified as a Title 2 Any Other Weapon (AOW) and requires BATFE approval.

Since the firearm you intend to build will have a less than 16" rifled barrel length and an overall length of greater than 26", it will be a Title 1 Other and does not require BATFE approval (tax stamp) to make.

    Under CA laws/regulations...
A "handgun" is a firearm with a less than 16" barrel length.

Since the firearm you intend to build will have a less than 16" barrel length, it will be considered a "handgun".
