Illegal? No. But if you are talking about CCW, some IA's don't allow them.

Midway won’t ship to Calif until you jump thru hoops. They want copy of Calif ID or items shipped to FFL. I cancelled my order of a red dot mount and a shotgun laser sight. F#%k em.

I don’t doubt you but this has got to be one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard. One would think IA would want those legally carrying in their jurisdiction to be as accurate as possible.

I've heard that Contra Costa and Alameda counties do not allow red dots, lights or lasers. There are probably more places.

I don't live in California so I'm not as up to date with this stuff. I'm thinking about going out in the spring if I don't go bear hunting, maybe early summer to hunt hogs on the ranch. What I was thinking I might take is my Rossi 92 .454 Cassull and it has a red dot on it. If I get my eyes worked over I might be able to switch back to irons, that's what all of this is about. Trying to stay legal is always a concern in this fast changing world.

You're fine. Red dots on firearms are legal here. I only brought up the ccw restrictions in some areas, in case you needed to know.
