Since leaving California almost 3 years ago I haven’t really cared too much about 10 round magazines. But I started shooting GSSF glock matches and find myself having to buy 10 round magazines for CA. Someone at a match mentioned there might be a wavier for competitions? If this is correct can someone post a link to it to print out. Thanks

10 Round wavier for competitions?

I'm not aware of anything like this. However you may try asking some of the officials with GSSF. -
I don't think that exists any longer, or at least I can't find it with a quick search. I recall reading it once several years ago and it was so restrictive and narrow it was pretty much worthless to the average person, shooting in a local match.
You may want to just pick up some 10 round Magpul mags. I've used them for a few years now with zero issues. Best part is you can get them for under $20 each, better than then $30+ for Glock 10 rounders.Last edited by P5Ret; 12-23-2024, 6:51 AM.Comment

The competition exemption came about during the End of Trails match in 2000. A lot of the level guns held more than 10 rounds. DOJ told people not to worry. If I recall, it exempts you to a sanctioned match, assume large match, you can travel to the match and back out the state. BUT, going anywhere else would be in violation, like getting food or gas.
There's a reason why the big matches like Steel Challenge have left California.Comment

I don't recall there ever being a competition exemption from California's Large Capacity Magazine statute. A quick check of the Penal Code, shows no provision currently in place.
Some folks may be confused due to the existence of a competition exemption from California's Assault Weapon statute contained in Penal Code section 30665. But PC 30665 don't do nothing for Large-Capacity Magazines. If you build a man a fire, you'll keep him warm for the evening. If you set a man on fire, you'll keep him warm for the rest of his life.👍 2Comment

If my math is close, a registrant who was eighteen back then would now be around fifty-three or so~ but how many folks who were that young back then actually registered weapons, had the finances to own such, or followed through in an effort to remain legal at the time? I bet the number isn’t huge. Of those who did actually register their weapons, I would say that many are either passed, or no longer even go shooting due to old age.
Does that sound d correct?

10 round mags are a lot cheaper than buying guns specifically because you need to use 10 rounders. Get what you want and just get mags. I've been using Magpul's 10 round mags for a while, when I need to use 10 rounders only. Never had a single issue with them, and they are under $20. Of course if you're shooting something other than a 9MM, the Magpul mags are off the table.Comment

Wound up spending couple hundred dollars on them. Both magpul and glock mags. 4 guns 3-5 mags each. Now have a large stack of 15/17 round magazines sitting on top of the safe. Next will be a G48 and I think they are 10 round magazines so I think I may have enough because I have a psa dagger micro (43x) clone that I bought some 10’sComment
