    Latest on non-resident ccw

What is the latest on non-resident carry permits in CA? Any information on non-residents carrying handguns not registered in CA? What about those who live in Idaho and other states that prohibit registration of firearms? What about standard capacity magazines?

There is nothing in California's statutory CCW permitting system that could account for out of state applicants - issuing authority is vested with chiefs of police and sheriffs; their authority to issue is limited to residents. I do not see how a judicial remedy can be fashioned short of declaring the requirement for a permit of any kind to be unconstitutional.
Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. So said somebody but not Mark Twain
"One argues to a judge, one does not argue with a judge." Me
"Never argue unless you are getting paid." CDAA
"I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it." George Bernard Shaw

Like everything else after a favorable court ruling it will be tied up for years in appeals. Even if not appealed (yeah right) it will take years if not decades for the state to actually get it going.

So, it appears that the State has not yet filed an appeal.

From what I know (not that much), the CRPA vs LASPD preliminary ruling dictated that CA. must issue permits to non-residents. He (the judge) gave Ca.30 days to formulate a reasonable plan to implement. I agree with the above. CA. will get a stay and this will go on for years maybe.
However, it's a start towards non-resident permits and eventually reciprocity (hopefully). Of course if the SCOTUS haters get their way and pack or otherwise turn the court all bets are off and it will be NEVER.

Would that even matter?….Who is actually going to physically make them come up with some manner to issue “permits” to non-residents, especially when Bonta and his cronies don’t want it? It’s all just more proof that permits shouldn’t even exist, and that all governments and their LE partners should follow the constitution. But by giving governments the ability to require permits, we are now see what a mistake that was.

That surprises me too. But you Know Bonta et al hate this idea (or any idea of self defense) and will fight this. I expect a request for stay either by the judge or appeals court.

I sent an email to the sheriff of the county that had issued my CA CCW, informing him that I wanted it renewed! No disagreement that giving governments the ability to require permits was a mistake.

This will be interesting to see if you even receive a reply.

Not sure if this post will survive on this site, but it would be nice to carry on this discussion on the other, new and improved forum. https://caguns.net/

As to out of state residents, imagine you applied to one, and got your permit in as little as four months; contrast that with a resident of Los Angeles county having to wait well over two years+ to secure the same permit.

Not going to happen here. Banning out of state permits is part of the democrat socialist priorities. Only a sea change in Excremento or a SC decision can change this.

The only non resident permit I need is Oregon when visiting my kids on the way to Boise from Hayden.

I agree, an Oregon CHL is all an Idahoan with an Enhanced CWL technically needs. Mine is from Grant County. I also have WA, which is simple and inexpensive to get, to avoid any potential hassle with federal school zones in WA.

Edit. It appears that New Mexico is no longer recognizing an Enhanced Idaho CWL. I wrote and asked for an explanation. Is California's deadline tomorrow?

I got a reply. They will let me apply. That may change when the preliminary injunction is issued.
