Moving back to CA- Question about moving truck

So, I got a job offer I couldn't refuse and we will be coming back to CA (I know). I have a question about moving firearms back into CA. Obviously, I'm legally storing items not legal in CA out of CA.

With that said, my brother-in-law offered to drive the moving truck for me so that I can drive our vehicle back with our dog. Is he able to transport the firearms in the moving truck for me? They will be in a locked moving truck (ill have the key), in a safe (only I have access to), and the handguns will be in locked cases unloaded in the safe as well.

Why not have your brother-in-law drive the vehicle with dog across the CA boarder, while you drive the vehicle with the safe across the CA boarder? The Ag inspectors might want to inspect the moving truck so the driver should be in a position to allow them to do so. All but one time when I crossed into CA, the Ag inspectors wanted to view what I had in the utility trailer I was towing. They never asked about the ammo I had with me or if I had any firearms.

Ag inspectors are looking for fruits and veggies. They couldn't care less about a gun safe.

        You're "Half-Right" here.

The AG Inspectors are only concerned with agricultural products. They don't do anything about firearms.

The problem for the OP is that they may be inclined to to view any closed compartments in the vehicle that could contain illegal agricultural products, and that includes the gun safe.

Ideally, Matt could drive the moving truck as long as he has the appropriate class DL. If the truck requires a Class B and he doesn't have a Class B license, then BIL would have to drive it.

          Good luck with move Matt!

It's probably too late to talk you out of it. But make sure you understand what you're getting into out here. There's no oil drilling in California anymore. Gas will only continue to increase beyond $5/gal. Inflation has been disastrous out here. At least 30% inflation on food and everything here. Pay raises are a joke compared to inflation. We have a ton of new taxes that are hidden in our services. Federal Covid money is gone, the State has a MASSIVE budget problem. All of the rich are leaving to avoid the Exit Tax. So guess who gets to pay to run this mess? Middle class who are already getting screwed over.

Oh ya, and that solar thing to save money on electricity. Also a joke now, thanks to SoCal Edison's successful lawsuit. There will be only minor savings for you, but a huge windfall for the Company. Yes, you won't zero your electric bill. You will knock less than 10% off of your monthly bill for producing the same amount of power that you use.

Also, crime... Most areas have given up on enforcing the laws. Either the police aren't funded enough to care. Or the Prosecutors are letting everyone arrested go. I suppose if you are into illegal drugs with easy access, maybe that's a reason to come back?

So unless you plan to live at the bottom economic tier, I'm greatly confused on why you'd come back. Don't get me wrong, I love other competent gun owners. But this State is trying very hard to destroy us. I try to update myself every year on what changes with the guns laws. I have to admit, with all of FBI/ATF/CA DOJ policy changes, the laws are not the least of our concerns anymore.

It's definitely bittersweet. Our hybrid car gets insanely good gas mileage, so it's too bad. Gas in Utah is already over $4/gal as well.

We kept our townhouse as a rental, and our mortgage with HOA is also cheaper than our rent here in Utah.

The job I'm taking out there about 40% more than I make now, and it will top out over 100k in a few years.

Regarding police, we lived and own in a decent part of CA, with crime rates far lower than the rest of the state.

As for coming back, we aren't sure we are staying forever, but it will get me the professional experience to make a future exit much easier if that is what I choose to do.

Yeah, depending on his comfort level, I'm thinking I will just drive it at this point. Dog can hang with me in the cab.

                Thanks all!
