why don't we get different color options for handguns in CA?

it seems like the this block of unsafe handgun act specifically allows for it, but I never see any for sale.
12131.5. (a) A firearm shall be deemed to satisfy the requirements
of subdivision (a) of Section 12131 if another firearm made by the
same manufacturer is already listed and the unlisted firearm differs
from the listed firearm only in one or more of the following
    features:
    (1) Finish, including, but not limited to, bluing, chrome-plating,
    oiling, or engraving.
    (2) The material from which the grips are made.
    (3) The shape or texture of the grips, so long as the difference
in grip shape or texture does not in any way alter the dimensions,
material, linkage, or functioning of the magazine well, the barrel,
the chamber, or any of the components of the firing mechanism of the
    firearm.
    (4) Any other purely cosmetic feature that does not in any way
alter the dimensions, material, linkage, or functioning of the
magazine well, the barrel, the chamber, or any of the components of
the firing mechanism of the firearm.

No monetary incentive is the reason.

A few guns have different colors, like the dark green Glocks, and a few other guns with stainless slides vs blued, but you won't see huge color assortments or variations simply because the mfgrs don't care to. They already almost completely sell all the guns they have on the roster already each year.

The few gun models they have on the roster, they'll continue to renew the fees, make, and sell, but there's a much bigger market outside CA that they'd rather commit their developments to instead.

I was amazed when Smith & Wesson added the rainbow of colors for the Shield 1.0 and added the hi-visibility sight option. The Shield looks good in FDE, OD and of course, Robins Egg Blue!

You need a more recent source - that code is now at PC 32030 https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/f...ctionNum=32030.

That bit of PC allows a manufacturer to add a gun to the Roster without doing the testing stuff at 32015. It's up to the manufacturer to actually add the gun(s), paying the $200 annual fee for each.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!
