Legality of changing Sig Grip Modules

If a non-exempt California resident owns a firearm such as a Sig Sauer P365, which's ownership has been duly reported over CFARS, is there a potential problem if they change the grip module? The FCU remans the same. Does it make a difference if the slide is changed so as to take a longer barrel? As of now, I don't believe there is a modification that allows for the calibre of a P365 to be modified and that all are 9mm.

In this situation, importation of an offroster handgun is a non-issue. Any modification would have been done after the resident's legal receipt and registration of the basic P365.

I believe that there are 380 barrels. I do not know if the slides are different but the recoil springs may be. I know that the recoil springs are different, even with 9mm, if longer slides and barrels are used.

Better question. If my brother, an Idaho resident, gave his son, a California resident, a Sig P365 FCU, could it be DROSed in CA? Son has a CA CCW, so the safe handling demo would not apply.

Can one legally change the barrel length and/or caliber on a Thompson Contender? OF course, the same would apply to any firearm as long as it doesn't end up in some illegal configuration.

Yes, just find a CA FFL who knows how to process an intrafamilur transfer and have it shipped to that FFL.

My ccw specifies the caliber of Each firearm. If this is changed, the firearm is no longer on the ccw.

No where does the ccw specify the other parts of the pistol on the ccw. Barrel length, frame size, red dot, etc are not specified. Some issuing agency will not permit red dot though

That may be the policy of your IA. I have heard that some will allow caliber changes.

Somewhere I believe I read a post in which an FFL was able to DROS a FCU after calling his DOJ rep. I think he was told write in that it was FCU only. I may be thinking of an AR lower only and I don't pay much attention to AR posts since I am so old my weapon was the M14 way back in the day.
