CFARS question bringing a off roster gun to CA from AZ

any advice about bringing guns from AZ to CA, I'm asking for a friend what does he need to do? how long is the waiting time for the CFARS? does he need to surrender the guns when he puts in the CFARS form?

    Is he moving here?

See the copy of the wiki, http://web.archive.org/web/201910180..._with_firearms

CFARS is just a reporting system; no 'waiting period', no 'surrender'.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Then he can't bring them here, it's a felony if he does. The law was specifically made to keep people like him from bringing guns back to CA

            So, here's another question....

My father recently passed away in AZ after living there for 10 years. I live in CA. He has several pistols and I want to bring them here. I fill out that same form mentioned above within 60-days? And that's it?

I believe the answer is no because you are importing them across state lines and those have to be done through ffl.

Both Federal and CA law allow inheritance (CA requires it be intrafamilial, Feds do not care) - AZ father to CA son in this case - to skip the FFL. [Remember, "inheritance" requires that the giver be deceased. Transfer pre-demise does need the FFL.]

Still have to tell CA via online CFARS or OPLAW form.

Normally ALL interstate transfers must be through an FFL but there is a loophole for inheritances - check the ATF rules and you'll need to send the form into the state.

His mistake not cutting off ca ties. Unfortunately it’s a no go.ca holds onto you as long as they can.

Please correct me if I'm wrong...to do this "legally"....

I need to get a Firearm Safety Certificate as I don't have one.

Once I get that, I can fill out an Intra-Familial Firearm Transaction with the CA DOJ along with the $19 fee. On the form I can list two guns (If I were to bring more, I just have to attached additional forms.

One of the pistols is off-roster (Springfield Hellcat) but I believe this shouldn't prevent me from brining here and registering it because I inherited from my dad. Right? I'm getting mixed messages about it.

That should be enough to bring them into CA.

                          Correct?

                          Sorry. I'm new at this.

                            All correct.

Do be aware that while off-Roster handgun inheritance from parents is fine, that does not include any large-capacity (11+) magazines.

                              Thank you.

I see that Springfield does sell a 10 round magazine for the Hellcat. I will be ordering two of those at some point.

I guess I can sell the stock Hellcat magazines he has in AZ? It came with the 11-round and 13-round magazines.
