    Knife laws

Going through stuff at my moms house I found (stuck inside a beer mug with a pewter lid) my old 1981 Gerber Guardian with orginal sheath.

All things considered I probably stuck it in there early to mid 1980s and promptly forgot about it.

Reading the knife laws it appears the only way to legally carry it is suspended from my waist.

Does this mean it is illegal to stick on my plate carrier and wear it?

Edit - Geez - you guys are fast - went to my computer to upload a picture to show the knife...

    3.5 inch blade/ 7.25 inches overall

How do I carry legally in this city / county / state

California Penal Code Section 21310 provides that any person in this state who carries concealed upon the person any dirk or dagger is punishable by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one year or imprisonment.

Not sure where you will have your plate carrier on

If it rains and you put on a jacket, does that make it illegal?
    (Probably)

Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

"suspended from my waist" is a non-exhaustive example of ways to legally carry a fixed-blade knife in public. Acknowledging that 'open/concealed carry' is a bit muddled, if you mount it to your plate carrier, and anyone could see it and know it was a knife, that's 'open carry' enough to be legal on that point.

      That's not the only point.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Please check your city and county laws too

The knife law is horrific as some cities limit what you can carry by length

            City of LA

This is contained under Los Angeles City Code, Sec. 13.62.020 which states that:

13.62.020 – Carrying knives and daggers in plain view prohibited.

It is unlawful for any person to carry on his person, in plain view, any knife or dagger.

In the US, there are several laws in force on different levels. There are federal, state, and municipal laws, all of which are very confusing when put together especially since they can differ from each other depending on which place you’re in. This causes trouble most of the time, especially for travelers who don’t know...

13.62.010 – Knives and daggers defined.

As used in this chapter, the terms “knives and daggers” shall include any knife having a blade of three inches or more in length; any spring-blade, switch-blade or snap-blade knife; any knife any blade of which is automatically released by a spring mechanism or other mechanical device; any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool; any straight-edge razor or any razor blade fitted to a handle.
