gun in tent or car when camping

In Colorado both of these are considered the same as your home, legal to have a loaded gun. I don't know how California handles these. Not loaded when driving, only when bedded down for the night, or in a tent, both in undeveloped territory. Thanks.

Check the Ca Definition of "domicile." In a car could be a grey area. In a tent, in your hotel/motel room, etc yes, legal assuming no other sort of laws against having firearms present.

If the motor home/RV/camper is parked and hooked up, in a designated RV/camping area, then it's considered a residence.
^During this time period and within the vehicle, firearms can be loaded and do not have to be locked up.

If the motor home/RV/camper is parked in a non-designated RV area (on or along a road/highway, in a commercial or public parking lot, etc), then it's considered a vehicle.
^Handguns need to be unloaded and in a locked container.
~Long guns need to be unloaded.

A car/SUV/truck/jeep with a deployed vehicle mounted tent would be considered an RV, when parked in a designated RV/camping area.

A car/SUV/truck/jeep with a bed/sleeping bag in the passenger/storage portion of the vehicle would not be considered an RV and would always be considered a vehicle.

Thanks for the information. As always, California makes it difficult to implement or understand. Will work on CCW as I camp in remote areas with little or no cell coverage. My hopes, living in San Diego county and not having a compelling work related good cause, are limited.

Question - does having a couple of thousand $ of firearms in my car with me provide a good cause when camping as described above? I see examples of expensive camera equipment used, but not sure if having guns will be compelling to the power that be.

Was at bass lake fishing off the dock at duceys and fish and game came to check licenses and a guy was smoking dope as he walked up asked if he had a license to fish he did they asked if he had any more dope or firearms he said yes to both . Had a loaded pistol in his back pack and a big jar of dope. They checked him for warrants I guess, Back his gun unloaded and dope and asked if he wouldn't load it until they left .

I believe this is because he had a fishing license and was actively fishing which entitle him to carry.

Section 12027 provides the following exemption to this prohibition: "Licensed hunters or fishermen carrying pistols, revolvers or other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person while engaged in hunting or fishing, or transporting those firearms unloaded when going to or returning from the hunting or fishing expedition.

So if I camp and sleep in the back of my Jeep with a loaded gun I'm a criminal. If I pop a tent up on the roof I'm A-ok?
