I have a Springfield M1A cali model and a M&P 15 Cali model. Do they need to be registered also?

That needs to be unpacked a little bit.

If you bought them in CA since Jan 1 2017, they're not 'assault weapons' - CA FFLs could not sell them to you. They must meet the new definition of 'fixed magazine' or be 'featureless'. Those do not need to be registered, and there is no ongoing registration, so indeed they cannot be registered. (A 'stock' M1A CA version is probably 'featureless')

If you owned rifles that did not meet either of those before 2017, you could have registered them as 'assault weapons'.

Some people tried to do that, and due to severe incompetence by DOJ, could not complete that registration, so a new registration period for those people only seems to be coming in 2022.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I bought the M1A in around 2015,and the M&P 15 Jan of this year. I also have a 1919A4 which I know that needs to be registered.

The M1a has a brake instead of a flash hider. I came from the factory like that.
