Having an AR-15 transferred to me, 18 years old

Hey everyone! I hope this is the right thread to post this but my brother wants to sell me one of his ARs, I am 18 years old and hold a valid CA hunting license. The rifle he wants to sell me is currently in a featureless configuration. Since I'm under 21, I can only have transferred to me any rimfire or non-semi auto centerfire rifle.

My main question is: Can I use a CMMG .22LR conversion kit to make it into a rimfire, thus making it transferrable to me, or use a Kali Key to convert it into a bolt action? As far as I know, from researching the law, there are no laws in place for converting a rimfire to centerfire, or a bolt action to a semi-auto.

Also, if there are complications with using the CMMG .22 conversion kit because there's still a 5.56 (centerfire) breech and barrel, could I just buy a dedicated .22lr upper, then after it's transferred to me, just slap on the 5.56 upper, but that's probably the most expensive route.

    Thank you very much!

If it is not in a centerfire semi auto config it is technically legal - be it a cali-key, 22 conversion etc. A cali-key may be cleaner because then the caliber markings on the barrel and receiver wont matter.

But this is going to be a YMMV situation. It will be entirely up to the FFL what they are comfortable with. And you are going to find a wide variety of policies among the FFLs. My guess is that only a small percentage will transfer it.

If it was a pure 22LR upper and the lower was marked 22LR or perhaps even multi, your chances may be better but perhaps not by much more.

PS - what happened to you turning 21 in a year? These questions are starting to get a little hinky... make up your mind how old you are at least

I have a physical disability that will make it nearly impossible to flee from an attack, I usually work late at night, leaving around 12-1 AM, and there's usually homeless people and sketchy people around when I leave work, and I go shooting often on BLM lands, where I bring many rifles and pistols with me, and my spot has lots of teenagers there vandalizing the place, drinking and doing drugs. I was just wondering if anyone here had any experience with APD.

    Thank you!

      Maybe he identifies as 20?

How'd he get his paws on many rifles and pistols is the question.
      It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

I share this account with my brother, he didn't want to create an account so he just used mine.
