Blank ammo - does this have to go through an FFL? NO - by law blanks not ammo

Pretty much what the title says; thinking on ordering some blanks to test out a blank fire adapter and maybe get into milsim down the line. I'd heard somewhere (dunno if this is accurate) that BATF does not consider blanks to be the same as live ammunition and doesn't regulate them the same way: does this apply to CADOJ as well?

If so, could I have blanks shipped directly to my door, without going through an FFL for transfer? And if so, could someone point to the relevant law on this? Appreciate it greatly.

^^^ FUD check with another source ammo is not an explosive device. Likely not since you can buy 22 blanks for use in ramset with no docs. I use them in my 22 single shot with pellets for rodent control. Just checked no under prop 63 30370 blanks not ammo in Ca.

I like that idea, so I am guessing you place a .22 cal pellet in first then a .22 blank behind it? That's ingenious.

So there are legit home built firearms and zip guns that are illegal.

My guess is that a 22 air gun pellet and a ramset round would be a zip gun and get you 5-15 years in the booty house

A 22 ramset in a bolt action 22 shooting a pellet is just shooting / discharging a firearm.

A very fast pellet up close. Small mass so little momentum.
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Using homemade ammo in a bolt action 22 does not make it a zip gun.

I have ordered blanks without issue since the ammo laws have changed. if you read the PC they are exempted. buy away!

Depends, if you are using a legally built 22 Cal firearm with ramset rounds and 22 Cal pellets I Cannot see how this would be interpreted as a zip gun. There are quite a few people that do this for rodents in rural farm areas because of the low cost.

Do launching cartridges count as blanks for this purpose? They have no projectile, just a load of ballistite and a star crimp at the mouth of the case.

You can buy .22 blanks at Home Depot.
