Would getting a medical cannabis license stop you from owning guns?

I remember reading on the forms where it says you're not allowed to use drugs, including marijuana, on the federal level.

If you get a medical cannabis card, would that somehow have any effect on you to own guns?

Appeals court upholds ban on gun sales to medical marijuana card holders

        Published August 31, 2016

A federal government ban on the sale of guns to medical marijuana card holders does not violate the 2nd Amendment, a federal appeals court said Wednesday.

The ruling by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals applies to the nine Western states that fall under the court's jurisdiction, including California, Washington and Oregon.

A federal government ban on the sale of guns to medical marijuana card holders does not violate the 2nd Amendment, a federal appeals court said Wednesday.

Not sure of law on prior ownership, but to add anything to your collection, you would have to lie on a 4473.

I recently saw a document posted at my local gun store. I believe it was from the ATF and it addressed the issue of medical marijuana cards. It basically said that if the customer showed the dealer the medical marijuana card, or indicated that they had one, the sale would be denied. It stated that state law regarding marijuana use was in conflict with Federal law and drug use would preclude a purchaser from legally buying the gun, regardless of state law on drug use.

Why do you think they call it dope?

You're 100% wrong. On my CCW application I was 100% straightforward and said that I had a medical marijuana license and smoked weed. I was the first person in Ventura county issued a CCW with a medical marijuana license. That being said, there's absolutely no reason to get a medical marijuana license any longer. All you need is a California driver's license to buy it, so don't open yourself up to extra paperwork and scrutiny by applying for a medical marijuana license.
Your CCW has nothing to do with federal gun laws and more to do with state and local laws and everything to do with the policies (not laws) of the country Sheriff or Chief of Police.

Don't worry, it will never pass...How in the hell did that pass?

Think past your gun, it's the last resort, the first is your brain.

From several discussions here on CG this is the answer. What you have you keep. Acquiring any more will be illegal since you will have to lie on your 4473.

Your currently owned firearms also become illegal to possess once you become a user of a controlled substance under federal law. Please refer to 18USC922(g)(3).

Does that include prescription medication, prescribed to you by a medical doctor, not being marijuana? Specifically certain pain meds?

Card is state-issued. Law is federal. Feds don't recognize the state law as valid, so you would either have to lie on your 4473 about being a drug user, or you can tell the truth and be denied the purchase of your gun.

Only if you are using them illegally or addicted to them. Here is the literal text of the question:

Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?
