I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so if it belongs elsewhere, my apologies:
I ordered a bolt rifle last week which arrived at my FFL yesterday. When we opened the box, the rifle (ostensibly "new") was sitting in the styrofoam, the rifle in it's cutout, the bolt in its. Neither were wrapped; the tang on the rifle was scratched and the bolt had an unusual coloring to it along the shaft portion (sorry, no pics; another error on my part). The FFL asked me did I want to go ahead with the paperwork, which I did, thinking these irregularities were simply cosmetic. Frankly, I was excited to receive the rifle and was less that rational in the moment; I inserted the bolt, operated it several times and the rifle seemed to function as it should. So, I went ahead with the 4473 and fingerprint; the FFL came back after a few and said "You're good to go; come back when I give you a call (the 10-day wait is apparently becoming much longer) and you can pick it up. So, my question is (you knew there was one here somewhere, eh?), have I "taken possession" of this rifle, or does that happen when I pick it up? I ask because the outfit I bought it from asked my just that, and I wasn't sure how to answer. I expect he will now say it's too late to return should I choose to. Clearly, someone was in the box before we were, and the vendor I bought it from claims he did not open it box before shipping it to my FFL. Any info you all can provide would be much appreciated. I have a feeling I'm stuck with the rifle, like it or not, but I wanted to verify this before making a next move. Many thanks.
