To Register or Not To Register

I'm a Vietnam Vet and a Teacher in Los Angeles. The husband of one of my students recently passed and she gave me his collection of guns and ammunition.
I'm wondering is I should register all of them and how much it will cost. Also, where should I go to register them, and what paperwork do I need.

Starting 01-01-1991, unless exempt, all private party transfers of firearms within CA must be done through a CA FFL dealer.

Since, a student to teacher transfer is not exempt, the firearms must be transferred (4473/DROS/10 day wait) to you through a CA FFL dealer. [PC 27545]
Failure to utilize a CA FFL dealer for the transfers equates to a misdemeaner per long gun [PC 27590(a)] and a felony per handgun [PC 27590(c)(5)].

The firearms must be CA legal (no assault weapons, etc) and can not include any large capacity (11+ round) magazines.

    Penal Code 27545
Where neither party to the transaction holds a dealer’s license issued pursuant to Sections 26700 to 26915, inclusive, the parties to the transaction shall complete the sale, loan, or transfer of that firearm through a licensed firearms dealer pursuant to Chapter 5 (commencing with Section 28050).
